Closet Fashionista's Spending Challenge: November Recap

  Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 8:15 AM   |    Post a Comment     Tagged:,,
Oddly enough, most of this months budget wasn't spent on clothes...so imagine if I only counted clothes in my budget, I'd be wayyy under. But I figure its better I keep myself accountable for everything that isn't necessary so I can move out faster (but I sorta want to save up for a house instead of an apartment, but that's insane).

I need to do some serious thinking about next year. I have 2 big trips coming up: Florida in March and London in July (London isn't totally set in stone yet), so I need to save up my money so I have spending money while I'm there.  I'm also debating whether or not to get an iPad so I don't have to bring my laptop with me...but that's $700 (for the smallest size 3G one with a case)...GRRR!  The problem with that would mean I wouldn't really be able to do any blog/Potter news posts with images, but I could do basic posts...I need to weigh the options....decisions decisions...stupid money.
  • November 2 - Toy Story 2 DVD $16.95
  • November 6 - Weekend with Friends $50
    • Pizza for Lunch (pepperoni) $10
    • TGI Friday's for Dinner (chicken tenders and blue raspberry slush) $20
    • American Eagle Blazer $20
  • November 16 - Dress from Twitch Vintage $16.49
  • November 16 - Deathly Hallows Soundtrack & Avatar Extended Edition $0 with SwagBucks gift cards! (should have been $29.98)
  • November 19 - Printing Photos from Summer - HP premiere & a collage poster $29
  • November 20 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows + Popcorn + Drink $3 (we had free tickets, dad gave us $10 and we split the end cost)
  • November 21 - Duchess Hot Dog and Chocolate Shake $7
  • November 21 - Mom Christmas Gift $37
  • November 22 - American Eagle Order $4.72 (had $100 gift card)

TOTAL: $164.16
LEFT: $85.84

New York Trip: $73 (this didn't count, and all of this was essential anyway since I needed food ;) )
  • Applebees - chicken nuggets, fries, water, brownie
  • Starbucks - hot chocolate + 1/2 a cinnamon bun
  • Starbucks 2 - hot chocolate + mini donut
  • Barnes and Noble - water and coffee cake
  • Cab
  • Train Ticket
Even if I counted that I'm still under, so yay!

  3. You know, Meg, I love lots of your posts, but your budget recaps might be my favourites. Seriously, they crack me up in their attention to detail, and I am SUCH a budgeter too (well, when I'm not, I'm not, but when I need to, I calculate every damn tomato)! I've recently put myself on a "Refugee Budget" of £35 a week which is ridiculous but making me more conscious than ever of how easy it is to spend money on nothing!

  4. Oh you are so lucky! I've never been to London. Make sure you save save save! Quick Tip: If you see something you like at the store, think, "do I need it or do I want it?" if it's something you want, but don't need then maybe it's best that you pass on it because it will benefit you in the long run, and more money for you! But I'm sure you'll be fine seeing that you are still under. Good for you! :)

  6. This doesn't read all too differently from my spending this month too. And money spent on attending Harry Potter movies as soon as they are released is money well spent in my books! :)

  7. i really want to get the avatar dvd too!

so i live in florida and i can tell you that you will want to save up money to at least take advantage of the water activities here. if you are going to south florida then you might want to go to miami for shopping too.

and london is great! definitely save money for shopping--their money is worth more than ours so things will be a bit more expensive. if you shop at Primark you will find less expensive clothing though.

  8. Great idea for a post, it is so difficult keeping tabs on our money sometimes. I have been trying to save for the past 3 months for a trip to india next year so the disposable income (mainly clothes and shoes has had to go!) hence I've become an inhabitor of my local charity shops! Your trips sound amazing, it will definitely be worth it.
Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog, would love you to follow. Fab blog, now following.

  11. I am always amazed at how organized you are! Perhaps if I saw myself down and looked at where I spend my money unnecessarily (Starbucks for sure!) I would have more around!

  16. "but I sorta want to save up for a house instead of an apartment, but that's insane"

Me too! I know it's not realistic, but if I REALLY curb my spending, it might be possible...?

Looks like you did well this month! It feels weird not to spend money sometimes, but it's so rewarding to know that you have $$$ stored up for a rainy day (or a house) if you ever need it!

  19. I just laughed so hard as the first one is the Toy Story DVD because even though I read the disclaimer I still thought it would be sort of clothes related...also the hot dog :)
