Bangin' Bargains: Tips for Getting Things Cheap

  Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 8:15 AM   |    Post a Comment     Tagged:,,,,,,
Everyone is always so shocked to find I buy almost all of my clothes on sale for ridiculously cheap prices.  It really isn't too hard to do, so here are some tips for you girls!  First a lesson from The Nanny, Fran, NEVER pay retail because you can always find it or something really similar cheaper (sometimes there are exceptions to the rule).  And now for some quick tips that I have learned for myself and from my mother. She is the best bargain shopper I know besides me.

eBay - USE eBay!! It is where I get most of my designer stuff for dirt cheap. The only problem is you need to really watch out for fakes.  Check out this post for tips on buying on ebay: Bangin' Bargains: eBay Tips!

TJ Maxx/Marshalls - TJ Maxx, Marshalls and similar stores are great places to find affordable designer fashions!  I always head right to the clearance sections first to check out what they have and then I move on to the other sections.  In these stores you are going to have to search, but you can find some great gems.
Examples from my purchases: DKNY cozy for $20, Theory dress for $29, and tons more!

GoodWill - GoodWill is another great place to find designer clothes for cheap.  Once again you will have to do a lot of digging but you can find great deals such as: BCBG blazer for $12 or a quilted purse and Ralph Lauren sweater for $14! You may have to dig through a lot of junk but there are gems within the dirt.

COUPONS! - Another big money saver is a coupon, duh! If you are shopping online make sure to check sites like retailmenot or just search google for "bluefly coupon codes" or whatever store you are shopping at. You can also search for printable coupon codes as well! A lot of stores have one or two coupon codes floating around at any given time, so you should be able to find one.

Clearance Section - The first thing I do when I go to any store (in person or online) is head straight for the clearance section since I know I will not want to pay full price for something even if its awesome (because eventually it will end up in clearance too).  If you don't find anything in clearance, then by all means head over to the non-sale stuff, but always check clearance first because you never know what you'll find!

I guess that's enough tips and me rambling for now.

  8. I always check out retailmenot...you can save a lot of money shopping online by just using the coupon tip. Unfortunately, TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Goodwill stores are only as good as the cities they're in...I live in a smaller, mostly unstylish town, so most of the stuff at those stores here are COMPLETE junk. Meh!

  11. I love all of your suggestions... I introduced the boyfriend to retailmenot and he's now using it for electronics and such all the time!

Ebay overwhelms me some times but I LOVE etsy...cheap cheap vintage designers all the time. Also, have you tried thrifting at Savers? They have a 99 cent deal on Thursdays for old stock... and I've gotten a blazer still with the Nordstrom price tag of $150+ for 99 cents one time.

  15. Great tips. I shop clearance and thrift stores all the time. In fact, I always donate a few items before I buy anything at thrift stores. Not only does it make more room in the closet, but it makes you feel like you did a good deed!

I also shop etsy (www.etsy.com)! Etsy is very similar to eBay, but its only vintage and/or handmade items. Instead of bidding, sellers list a price, but you can always send the seller a note to haggle over price! I bought my dad some vintage lunchboxes for his birthday, Star Wars collectibles for my boyfriend and beautiful skirts for myself off etsy!

  21. Great tips! I should say that is good to know that there are many sellers from Asia on ebay that use to show a picture of the product but when it comes home is not the same thing! I got my lesson now ;)

  26. nice tips! i'm the same way; i hardly ever, ever purchase clothes full price. it's so much more rewarding (and possible) to find really good deals and quality finds!

  27. You know I can't get enough of TJMaxx or clearance racks. It is almost never worth it to pay full price for anything!!

(once in a while you'll miss out because your size isn't left when it moves to the back of the store, but if you are really determined, sometimes it can be found on ebay. haha)

  33. I totally hit the clearance rack first - you just never know what made its way there (or what was just returned)!

I intentionally misspell designers' names when I search on eBay. I've found some pretty awesome pieces that way .
