{beauty} My "Beauty Routine"

Yesterday Leandra, aka The Man Repeller, did a post on why she does not wear makeup because a lot of people call her out on that fact and some even have the nerve to call her 'ugly.' This got me thinking - what is the fascination with makeup and if people wear it or not? Some days I wear makeup, some days I don't. Does that make me ugly when I don't wear it? Certainly not! (at least I hope) So today, I thought I would share my beauty routine, or lack of depending on your views.

At one point in my life, a few years ago, I actually used foundation every day even though I hated it. Then I thought to myself, why am I putting this junk all over my face if I don't want to? To be fair, it was Chanel, so not exactly junk, but you know what I mean.

My list of makeup and beauty products (that I actually use) is small, and because of that I splurge and buy Chanel most of the time. I do have a drawer full of things I've acquired over the years but barely use any of it. The photos below show the products I use on a daily basis. Click on the product in the image to shop or use the text links below.

Morning: When I wake up I use L'Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector Serum and L'Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector Day/Night Cream followed by my makeup. I start with Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush (Rose Ecrin) on my cheeks followed by Chanel Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow (Spices), and CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara. I finish up with Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick. I love this lipstick because it's pretty much like colored chapstick, I have a few shades: Fiction, Espirit, Deauville, Elise, Bel-Ami and Bonheur. When Summer comes I may add bronzer back into the mix depending on my mood. [the blush and eyeshadow are my backups since my current ones are almost empty]

Night: I remove my makeup with Caudalie Make-Up Remover Cleansing Water (with Shiseido Cotton pads) and follow that with L'Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector Serum and L'Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector Day/Night Cream just like in the morning. Now would also be the perfect time to use one of the tightening Strivectin creams. Nice, simple, effective!

And there you have it, my 5 minute beauty routine, I rarely deviate from this but sometimes I do try something a bit different with my makeup like a different eyeshadow (pretty much the only change).

  3. I used to never wear make up, but then I spent a semester photographing a woman who was obsessed with makeup. It was a crazy extreme and sometimes I thought her make up was a little ridiculous, but then there are people in this world who think sequins are ridiculous, so to each their own, right?

But at the end of it I was feeling more receptive to the idea of makeup and eventually fell into my routine. Like you I tried wearing things I thought I was supposed to wear but did not like. Foundation gets all over my clothes! I have a habit of rubbing my eyes and I'd always mess up my mascara/shadows!

So now I have my simple routine of sunscreen, powder, blush, eyeliner, lipgloss, and a little shimmer. I like it. I feel pretty when I leave the house and that is all that matters.

  6. I always love seeing what makeup/skin care goods others use. Have you ever tried Indie Lee? It's my all-time favorite skin care line. Natural and totally amazing. :)

  7. Most of the time i actually think people not wearing make-up are the prettiest ones. Although i'm ALWAYS wearing make-up myself, i love people looking really natural. And i certainly don't understand why people are considering it to be ugly?

  8. Mine is pretty basic too. The only Chanel in mine is the face powder and the mascara. The rest is Stila or Smashbox.
I hate wearing foundation specially since i live in a hot and humid country… it does not favour these climates!

  9. I read her post and I cannot believe that guy called her ugly!! Just because you don't wear makeup doesn't make you ugly, natural beauty is the best way to go. I don't always wear makeup, but when I do I keep it to a minimal, blush, lipstick and mascara. Great post, thank you for sharing this.

  10. I remember there was a study that found the optimal amount of makeup was actually oly 40% of what girls wear daily. Even though I'm aware of this fact, I still like to go all-out (full foundation, eyeshadow, blush) some days because I consider makeup an outlet of creative expression, just like fashion. I do it for my own satisfaction!

  11. I've been wanting to do a post like this one for a while. One with the everyday makeup and another one with the cleansing routine.
I do wear makeup everyday, weekends lighter than week days. I can leave the house without make up but never without mascara (i just feel like I look sleepy without it!).

  12. I am also a big fan of Chanel beauty products, one of the few brands I think are worth the splurge.

  13. You definitely should only wear what you want to :) Does the L'Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector actually diminish lines?
