I picked up these super fun gold flecked linen shorts before my Banana Republic Factory styling event for a whopping $8! The first thing I thought to wear them with was this feline print Equipment top. Forgive the wrinkles, I only sat in them for a little bit and they wrinkled right up.

When I got to my parents both of my brothers had interesting thoughts on my look. The youngest said I looked like Ace Ventura. The other told me I looked like an 60 year old woman. That was probably brought on by a combo of the shape of the shorts and the eyeglasses chain. But whatever, I dig it! Personally I'm reminding myself of Ellie from Jurassic Park or someone about to go on a safari.

Here's a full redo of an outfit from 2010. I was almost going to wear different shoes but decided to just go for the original and add in some new accessories. This dress actually should have left my closet years ago since I never wear it. I hate the fabric it's made out of. BUT...I keep it around for my Willy Wonka Halloween costume in case I ever need to wear it again.

The Original:

I tried to behave a little more this month since I spent quite a bit in July. Buuuut that all went to heck when I decided to bite the bullet on a purchase I've been wanting to make since last year: a Chloé Faye bag. Technically I've wanted it since Summer 2015 but last Fall they came out with MY COLOR and that sealed my fate! I've slowly been saving up to buy one but it was slow going for a while and it's almost impossible to find a brand new dark purple bag.  This is the biggest clothing purchase I've made, apart from my Chanel 2.55 purse back in 2012.

I've been scouring eBay, The Real Real, Luxury Garage Sale, and Vestiaire Collective for at least 8 months. During that time I came across maybe 1 or 2 bags in passable condition. That's why it was a little easier for me to justify buying it before I had fully saved up. I took the remainder of the money I needed out of my Australia vacation savings account and now I'll just build that back up to where it needs to be over the next 6 months. So while I was bad, it's not a huge deal since I basically robbed a vacation that won't be happening for at least a year to pay for a bag. Don't you all love reading about how I justify my huge purchases?

Other than that, I did add a few other pieces to my closet, but all were gifted by brands, so no issues there! Let's see how I behave next month.

Well, I finally did it. I bought a Chloé Faye bag! Apart from my Chanel 2.55 purse back in 2012 it is the biggest clothing purchase I've made. This is a text heavy post so, if you don't want to hear me ramble on, you can just skip to the outfit.

Chloé debuted their Faye bag in September 2014 at the Spring/Summer 2015 show. It was tapped to be an it bag for Spring. Admittedly, I forgot about it until I saw it pop up in my thrice weekly "New In" email from Net-a-Porter in Spring. Once I saw it again my shoulder was itching to carry the 70s inspired bag.

The Chloé Faye comes in multiple sizes and in smooth calfskin, smooth & suede calfskin, and embellished versions.  The sturdiness and accordion style is also what drew me in. You can carry it long or short shoulder and cross-body. The ring loop with hook and chain hardware is also a really fun added touch! Another awesome detail is that the hardware is gold AND silver, perfect for my metal mixing ways. It's classic with a twist, just my style!

The Faye was made in some beautiful colors but I couldn't justify spending $2000 on a bag color I already owned or was just "basic." There was a gorgeous burgundy but I already had that same color in a smaller bag so I resisted.

It wasn't until Fall of 2016 that I absolutely HAD to have the bag. They released a dark purple which, as many of you know, is my favorite color. The day I saw it I decided to start saving up so I could eventually buy it. Unfortunately they didn't make dark purple for very long and after only a few months I couldn't find it anywhere. I knew I would have to resort to eBay and consignment shops when I finally had enough saved up.

I've scoured eBay, The Real Real, Luxury Garage Sale, and Vestiaire Collective for at least 8 months. During that time I came across maybe 1 or 2 bags in passable condition. A couple weeks ago I found this one NWT on eBay and decided it was now or never even though I didn't have enough saved. So, after a week of debating with myself, I robbed my (still unplanned) Australia vacation savings account [read about how I handle personal finance] to pay for the rest and will build that account back up to where it should be. So while I splurged it's not a huge deal since I borrowed from a vacation that won't happen for at least a year.

And one more interesting fact: my middle name is Faye after one of my grandmothers who unfortunately passed away when I was 13.  So this bag has added meaning because it is part of my name and will always remind me of my grandmother.

I wore this a couple weekends ago to see John Mayer in concert during his The Search for Everything tour! I rarely go to concerts but this was the second time I've seen John. The last time was 9 years ago, on August 24th actually. So it was almost exactly 9 years apart. I'm not really one for new music so John is one of the "newer" people I actually love, but even he is old school. The only other concerts I've been to have been the following: The Eagles, Billy Joel, Steely Dan, The Beach Boys and Huey Lewis and the News. Yes, I'm an old person. Here's a quick peek at the concert via my Instagram.

I'm off to Florida on Wednesday so I'm going to take a week off the blog, except for my monthly wardrobe update on Friday and a special "new in" post tomorrow! I'm attending, and working at, Mugglenet's Nineteen Years Later event to commemorate the actual day featured in the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which takes place on September 1, 2017. They're holding an event with some Potter cast members at Universal Orlando's Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida!

Last Saturday Lydia and I attended a brunch in Wethersfield for Connecticut bloggers. It was held at Heirloom Market and organized by the lovely Nonee, who runs CT Blogger Babes. There were a little over 25 lovely ladies in attendance for a delicious meal followed by some discussions about how to best reach your blogging potential. I actually learned quite a few tips!

We left the event with goodie bags containing fun little bits and bobs like chapstick, lip gloss and an adorable burned wood spoon. I also won a $75 gift card to Pearls and Plaid in Old Saybrook. Looks like I'll be planning a weekend visit!

I decided to wear my Carven Paris map print dress because I haven't worn it that much this Summer (I did bring it to Italy, though!) It will forever be one of my favorite dresses. I'm so glad I splurged on it a couple years ago, it's definitely been worth it. I also broke out my rose gold watch for a bit more glam, but the battery died so it was just for looks.
