Follow Me
Happy Halloween everyone!!! I hope you have a day full of candy, scary (or non-scary for me) movies and fun!  Sadly I will be at work and won't get home until 8 so I won't be able to have my usual movie marathon. I'll have to pick my absolute favorite one (probably Casper or Hocus Pocus)

And now I leave you with this bewitching photo of Emma Watson from the October 2008 issue of Harpers Bazaar.  She is wearing Alexander McQueen (who can also be seen in the window and crystal ball.
As you saw yesterday, I successfully finished my Burberry Prorsum inspired owl tee! Today I thought I would share a quick DIY with instructions on how to make one yourself!  First check out all the available options from Burberry, then decide on your favorite (or draw your own).  [I am not very good at instructing, so this is VERY basic]

You'll need:
  • beads
  • felt (optional)
  • needle & thread
  • tshirt or sweater
1. Choose your design, print it out and go to the craft store to buy beads.
Tip: If you are in the US, AC Moore and Michael's tend to have 40% and 50% off coupons so try to find one online before you go, it will save you lots of money in the end.  I luckily went during a bead sale so they were all 50% off.
2. Optional: Buy some felt to put your beads on before attaching to your shirt. If you want to skip this step you can just sew the beads right on your shirt or sweater.  Make a pattern with the image you printed and cut out your felt, then sew together to make your owl.
3. Lay out your beads to see how you want to place them.  Take a picture so you don't forget.  You may change things as you progress (like I did), but it's good to have a basic idea.
4. Begin sewing. I suggest working from the outside in.  I started with the face,  then his stomach and finally moved on to his ,wings at which point I realized I wouldn't be able to bead around his ears because there wasn't enough space to sew it on the shirt after.
5. Sew your owl onto your shirt! (unless you sewed the beads directly on your shirt...) And then you're done!
As many of you know, either by following my Twitter or Instagram, I have been making my own version of the Burberry Prorsum owl tees/sweaters [link to my DIY] over the past couple weeks.  I finally finished last weekend and had to wear it right away!  Stay tuned tomorrow for a small instruction post.

I haven't done a video outfit since my first installment so I figured it was time to do another one! Enjoy! (The actual outfit part is under 2 minutes, but I let the whole song run in case you guys wanted to hear the whole thing)

(VIDEO HAS BEEN DELETED FROM WHERE I ORIGINALLY UPLOADED IT)

Tee: Made by Me (base from Target), Jeans: Rag & Bone (Shopbop), Booties: Alexander Wang (The Outnet), Watch: Michael Kors

This was my first full week* at work and boy am I pooped! Getting up at 5:40am and getting home at 8pm is not fun, but on the plus side I love my job!  We are so busy so I can barely breathe during the day, but it's fun so it doesn't matter.

I really need to get some more walking shoes, I always find myself wearing my vanEli flats (see Wednesday's outfit) because they don't hurt at all during my 1.5 mile walks to/from the train station.  My other flats start hurting after walking too far, which is annoying because they are usually fine when I wear them all day. They just rub my feet weirdly while I'm doing my "super fast to catch the train" walk.  Anyone have suggestions for good walking shoes? (not sneakers)

*When I say full week I mean four days because I have Fridays off (for now.)

Last Friday it was a bit rainy and gross out, but I had to go out to meet a friend for lunch so I threw on a really comfortable outfit and my däv moto rainboots. I believe this is the first time they have been shown in a full outfit post but I've worn them a few times. Sometimes I enjoy a rainy day, it's fun to jump in puddles and be a kid again!

Sweater: French Connection (Marshalls), Jeans: Free People (Gilt Groupe) gift card, Necklace: Francesca's $22, Bag: Chanel, Rain boots: däv giveaway win

After lunch I stopped at Lord & Taylor to check out the Chanel counter because their friends and family sale was going on, meaning an extra 10% off makeup, which is a rare occurrence!  I bought a new winter shade of lipstick and another eye shadow set because I only have one other.  I got Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in "Bel-Ami" and Les 4 Ombres Quatra eye shadow in "Eclosion." I always love going to the Chanel counter because they show you how to use the product, I STINK at makeup.  It is also the one thing I really splurge on, I figure if it's expensive I'll take the time to put it on. ;)

I wore this a couple weekends ago when my roommate and I went to our favorite restaurant for dinner - The Chowder Pot - SO tasty!  It was a little chilly so going without tights wasn't the smartest idea, but I wanted to wear this dress without tights one more time.  My bag perfectly picked up the light purple in the floral print of the dress, as did the blazer with the darker purple. I do love when that happens. I'm also wearing a new owl necklace my sister got me for my birthday, I have an owl obsession. I blame Harry Potter for amplifying the love.

It's about time I did a post on my Michael Kors inspired lace skirt.  When I saw the Michael Kors Fall 2012 collection I fell in love with the lace skirt and cream sweater combo [proof]. I had the sweater and similar shoes already, so all I needed was the skirt.  I waited impatiently for it to go on sale so I could learn more about the shape and materials.

Unfortunately the actual skirt retails for $6,995 (the sweater is $1295) so that was definitely not an option.  Thankfully my mom can sew so I asked if she would help me to recreate it! I found the fabric on etsy (buy here) and we used some old patterns to create our own.  It took a while to figure out how to get the high-low to work. In the end we had to get rid of the scalloped hem, I was a little disappointed, but the skirt still came out great.

We had some leftover fabric so my mom made another skirt, this time shorter and with the scalloped edge.  That version is going to be easier to wear but I am definitely going to get a few more wears out of the longer version, see the first time I wore it here. I'm thinking it's my Thanksgiving outfit!

Here are both complete looks, what do you think?!

Sweater: Inis Crafts (Marshalls) $30 gift, Skirt: Made by Mom $50 for fabric, Sandals: Guess (Marshalls) $40
vs.
Michael Kors Sweater: $1295, Michael Kors Skirt: $6995, Michael Kors Shoes: $995 (they were sandals on the runway)

$120 vs. $9285 = savings of $9165  OR 98.7%

Next up I'll show you the Burberry-inspired Owl Tee I'm working on!
Welcome to the first (and only) installment of the Intern Diaries! Since I only worked 3 days a week it didn't make sense to do the old version of "This Week in Fashion," so I decided to do a large recap! Moving on, I have been interning in New York City for a fashion website as a graphic designer and the dress code is pretty casual; we have to look presentable & professional.  I think I've been doing a pretty good job with it.

As I have been hinting, I have some big news!  After only 2 weeks my boss and the President of the company decided they liked my work so much that they wanted to hire me on a more permanent basis! We're starting out at 4 days per week to see how things go, so exciting! It's going to be hard getting up at 5:40 almost every day, but it should be worth it. Monday was my first official day as a freelancer, now I am officially working in the city! Woohoo!

I'm still commuting because I can't afford to move to the city yet, but I assume I will end up there eventually...
