The French Wardrobe Challenge is over!! I can't believe I made it through! I'd like to think I did a pretty good job. This month I added a new watch, which I desperately needed, and a cute new bathing suit that I don't need. I also found the EXACT Free People jeans I've been trying to replace for over a year, since I loved my first pair so much. They're used but they still have plenty of wear before they get as bad as my original pair. That's why I love eBay!

Also, if you recall, back in May I went to NYC for the Grand Opening of a new Marshalls store and after that I headed to one of Roundabout's New York locations. I tried on a GORGEOUS Jason Wu dress that I wanted since 2011. Sadly it was too expensive so I left it. BUT a couple weeks ago I went to my local Roundabout for the last day of their Summer Blowout Sale and, as if it were fate, there was the Jason Wu dress! No one bought it in NY so they shipped it over to my store and I got it for $136. It was originally $1995, their original price was $429. With the sale it was an additional 65% off AND ANOTHER 20% off! I also got a black Jason Wu shirtdress for $80, retail $990.

But, I was also really bad and bought a pair of Chanel flats on eBay. In my defense, I had been following them for MONTHS and the seller put them on sale and eBay was offering 4X eBay Bucks, so I made $40 back buying them...justifiable? I hope so! They are also a really cool texture and my favorite colors: burgundy and purple! They haven't arrived yet, so no photo except this.

While I did really enjoy the challenge I think I'm going to go a different direction for the next 6 months. I'm still going to try to only buy basic items but I'm not going to be soooo strict about non-basics.  I'll probably try to stick to a specific color palette so I don't go crazy with statement pieces,  or maybe instead of 5 I'll do 7.

THE RULES
  1. Just five standout pieces per season.
  2. Quality over quantity.
  3. Basics don’t count.
  4. Accessories don’t count, unless you’re spending a lot more than usual.
  5. Socks and underwear don’t count.
  6. Shoes do count.
MY PROGRESS

Part of my Five:
Basics:
Accessories:

Exempt:  Not counting any items I got from brands or bought for Marshalls Project FAB (bought with a gift card)

Winter Items: I'm still trying to limit these types of purchases, but I can't resist a good deal!
I wore one of the few peplum tops I own when I went out to dinner with my best friends last week. I call it peplum, but it isn't really, but it's as close as I get to the trend. Real peplum pieces never look all that great on me, I prefer the softer version. And I'm getting all the wear out of these jeans that I can before I turn back to all my super dark denim (YAY!)

Marrin Costello gifted the jewelry in this post, but all opinions are my own.

Today Lydia and I are excited to feature some pieces of jewelry from LA based designer Marrin Costello!  We partnered up with Marrin to showcase how we would style her fabulous pieces! I chose the MIDI Rings (gunmetal), Stellar Ring (gunmetal) and Helix (gold) necklace while Lydia opted for the Baby B (gold) and the Saratoga (gold) bracelets.

While all very different, each piece I received was well made and simply designed. I always find simple jewelry to be the best, because you can pair it with most anything.  For the looks I styled I showed both sides of the coin: a simple black dress with a necklace, and an outfit featuring a print.  I could have switched my jewelry for each look and still looked fabulous! That's how I know I found a great accessory.

Enjoy the photos below, and #DontForgetToAccessorize with Marrin Costello Jewelry! I'm really looking forward to the release of her Stoned collection because, as we all know, I love jewelry with gemstones and other pretty things.

Let's do something a little different today: Everyone loves music, right? And a lot of people use musicians as the inspiration for their outfits. My friends know that I am not a new/popular music kind of girl. I prefer Classic Rock and the oldies when I want to get my spirits up. I turn to bands like The Eagles, Beatles, James Taylor or Billy Joel and if I'm in the mood for "new" music, John Mayer (and more recently Manifesto - a British band that I was introduced to via a Harry Potter actor who is in the band.) To switch things up, I decided to create a look inspired by The Police!

The Police were one of the most popular groups in the 70s and 80s and their songs are still played on most radio stations. You would likely find at least one of them in a leather jacket or a blazer, and they loved their jeans! As for shoes, they were fans of boots and sneakers. A pretty easy look to recreate because it has a certain ease about it. (Don't worry, we won't go totally 80's with over-sized blazers as they did.)  I created a look with items from BooHoo.com!

Leather Jacket, White Tank Top, Skinny Jeans, Chelsea Boot, Pearl & Chain Necklace, and Round Frame Sunglasses

Today I'm featuring a pair of "Bertha" sunglasses from GlassesShop.com! They are a really fun red/burgundy color that gradates down. So to bring out the color I decided to wear some burgundy pieces.  This pair was also good at blocking out the sun, just like the first pair I featured on Friday. Both the dress and sweater have been in my closet for quite some time. This is the first appearance the sweater has made on the blog, but I had it long before that started. And this dress was one of my first Marc Jacobs buys (after my velvet polka dot blazer) on eBay in 2010.

Today I'm sharing the first of two posts featuring sunglasses from GlassesShop.com! This pair is called the "Fanny" and features pearls and a jaguar on the arm! I love that little touch of fun added to an otherwise classic pair of sunglasses. And, what would a sunglasses review be without talking about the sun? Sometimes even when I wear sunglasses I find myself squinting as I'm driving or walking in the sun. That wasn't the case with these, I could almost look directly at the sun without being bothered. That's the mark of a great pair!

This past weekend I drove up to Massachusetts to go to the drive-in with my friend Kat! We saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Hercules (with The Rock.) Sadly the car battery died so we couldn't really hear Hercules all that well, but it looked bad anyway, ha ha. I didn't hate TMNT like I thought I would, but it is still nowhere near as good as the ones from the 90s. It was such a great night, perfectly cool weather, but not too cold!
