Yesterday I showed a few ways to style a one-piece for the beach, but today is all about rocking the bikini.  Some people say you have to be rail thin to wear a bikini, but I am of the mindset that if you have the confidence you should go for it!  But you do need to keep in mind your body type, if you are really curvy I would stay away from the string bikini and go for a more supportive version.  Below are a few examples of the different types of bikinis you can try!

A simple string bikini is one of the more popular types.  This one comes complete with a fun parrot print, and a nice low price tag! For this bikini I opted for a crochet cover up so you could see peeks of the bikini underneath.

You can't go wrong with a classic black bikini! I paired this one with acute leopard print sundress for the perfect boardwalk look!  You can even switch the sandals for heeled ones and go out on the town!

A pretty floral bikini is another great option. I like this bikini because it is a more unique floral and not the bright Hawaiian style you always find on the beach. For this suit I found a solid coverup that pulled one of the colors out of the print.

[I must be on a Zimmermann kick, but what can I say, it's nice stuff!]
One of the most important things to worry about when going on a beach vacation is what type of bathing suit(s) to bring.  I used to be a bikini girl, but this year I am more into one pieces. I don't know whether I am more self conscious about my body or if I've grown out of the bikini stage a bit earlier than most girls my age.  I still love them, and packed a few for this vacation, but I feel more comfortable in a nice one piece.  This isn't to say that one pieces have to be totally covered, you can still be sexy in a one-piece and today's post will hopefully show you how to do that!

Below I've illustrated a few different styles of bathing suits and how to wear them.  What's great about one pieces is that you don't really need to have anything to cover up your top because the suit can act as a bodysuit.  (Obviously you don't need to wear a top with a bikini either, but if you want to go shopping after the beach it's best to have coverage)

Here is one of my swimsuits, a perfect Michael by Michael Kors animal print suit! It is great for any body type and also comes in plus sizes. It covers you and shows just enough cleavage, I'm obsessed with it.

This suit by Miu Miu is GORGEOUS, it's classy and covered but you get some extra skin with the deep v-neck. I think pairing it with cute printed shorts and bright sandals would be a really cute beach and boardwalk outfit!

Lastly you could opt for a fun printed swimsuit like this one from We Are Handsome. I am addicted to their quirky swimsuit designs, I've had to resist buying the peacock one in the net-a-porter sale because I don't need another suit.

Which is your favorite!?

Stay tuned for the bikini edition of this post tomorrow!
Welcome to day two of beach week!  Let's talk about what to bring in your beach bag!  There are a few necessities that no girl should be without at the beach, chief among them is sunscreen!  I won't go into all the details of skin cancer and will just say that sunscreen is your friend.  I haven't always been a sunscreen advocate because I never burn, but I know that even though I'm not burning my skin is still at risk so I make sure to use it when I'll be in the sun. Always have some with you and reapply throughout the day!

Now onto the more fun items!  Ready? Set? Let's Go!

  1. An Awesome Tote: No brainer...where else would you put all your stuff! ;)
Shopbop has an awesome selection in all price ranges!
  2. Sunglasses: You can't be without a chic pair of eyewear, but be careful not to get a sunglasses tan!
Check out net-a-porter for a HUGE selection of sunglasses!
  3. A Hat: For those moments when you don't want your sunglasses on
Target has an amazing selection of floppy hats in a variety of colors!
  4. Book/Magazine/Word Puzzle Book: You'll need something to occupy you when you aren't walking along the smooth sand, people watching or frolicking in the water!
  5. Towel: I think this is pretty self explanatory, but make sure your towel has a fun print/color or design!
Once again, head to Target for tons of fun towels!
  6. Water: You don't want to get dehydrated!
You will notice I don't have a coverup or bathing suit on this list...that's because I have TWO posts on that coming up on Thursday and Friday! Get excited!
This week I am posting all about Beach getaways! Why do you ask? Well if you missed Friday's post, I am in Myrtle Beach with my family!  To start off the week let's talk about what to pack for your beach vacation!

Basic Clothes: When packing you want to pack as light as possible, so bringing basics is the way to go. Bring a couple skirts, shorts (denim & printed/solid) and pairs of pants (jeans & trousers.) Then find tops that mix and match.

Statement Pieces: You also want some statement pieces to spice up the basics you brought. This can be anything from jewelry to crazy printed pieces.

Extras: I always plan on bringing a few extra pieces that don't necessarily go with the rest of my clothes as "just in case" pieces. Make sure to have an umbrella in case it rains.  Always be prepared!

Below is a sampling of all those types of clothes:
Pictured: Joe's Jeans Shorts, T by Alexander Wang Skirt, Missoni Dress, Equipment Blouse, Miu Miu Cardigan, Sseko Sandals, Theodora and Callum Wedges, Oscar de la Renta Necklace, Rebecca Minkoff Clutch, Zara Floral Trousers

Bathing Suits: Come back later this week!

Makeup: I would go light on the makeup since you'll be on the beach most of the time.  I will be taking my trusty Chanel bronzer, blush, mascara and Rouge Coco Shine and some eyeshadow for when we aren't on the beach.  No concealer needed for this trip! You also want to have a moisturizer for morning and night.
[I highly recommend Rouge Coco Shine, it is expensive but I am addicted.  I am NOT a lipstick girl, so what I love about this is it is more like a tinted chapstick, it goes on so smooth you forget you have it on]

Check back tomorrow for beach bag must haves!

I spent a whopping $7.25 on my thrifting adventure with Lydia [outfit post here]. $1 on a nice silk skirt, 25 cents on a Hercules plate and $6 on a really cool printed maxi dress! Hopefully I am able to style them well...  One of the stores also had an old SEGA game I used to be obsessed with (Sonic!), if only they had the actual gaming system too, I would have gotten them! *sigh*

It was so nice spending most of the day outside!  Anyway, enough of my blabbing, here are some photos from the day.

Last night I repacked all my stuff and of course I had to post it on instagram, if you don't follow here you go:

And finally, I went to the beach a couple weekends ago when it was really hot, it was so nice and relaxing just sitting on the beach.  Definitely going to be doing it more often when its warm again.

As most of you know, I spent the weekend at my Aunt's brothers house in Avalon, New Jersey.  Their house was CRAZY! It was right next to a little bay so we had a great view of some water.  The beach was only a few blocks away and it was private so there weren't tons of people.

So I spent my weekend at the beach, relaxing in the house, and going on lots and lots of walks!  We did go on a shopping excursion but I resisted buying things because I didn't really NEED any of the stuff I saw.

Here are some photos I took from the weekend! The last 4 are ones my mommy took ;)  I blurred out the faces of my family members (aunt, cousin, brother and dad), haha...as you can see...my cousin is not the most fashionable girl in the world :/ Click to make them larger.

Well I am home from vacation and had a great time! Here's a quick, but not so quick, recap of my last 5 days along with some photos (my mom has all the candid photos on her camera so maybe I'll post some of those later when she's back)

Saturday: Mom and I drove up to the house (we rented for the week) alone, set up the house, went to the beach for a few hours, did some shopping, and got Iggy's for dinner. If you ever go to Rhode Island, I highly recommend it! Then I looked around the house for wireless internet and found it out on the deck! At around 8 my sister came up to the house and we watched The Wedding Planner. Then we went to bed, I was sadly a bit sunburned (I don't usually burn)!

(the house, my sister's/my room, dinner, beach outfit (dress - American Eagle $19.99, bathing suit - Hollister $25))
Sunday: I woke up with my sunburn turned to tan, woohoo! We ate breakfast and headed to the beach for a few hours.  We didn't stay long because it was cloudy and gross.  After that we went to Marshall's and started to watch Sabrina (with Harrison Ford) then my dad and brother's arrived around 8.  We watched some TV and went to sleep.
(breakfast, Marshalls, beach outfit (coverup - Victoria's Secret $10, bathing suit - American Eagle $20)
Monday: Woke up, had breakfast, went to the beach from 10-3 or so.  My other family came at this point (2 aunts, 2 uncles and 4 cousins).  I went in the water for a while and tanned.  Then we had spaghetti for dinner and played Apples to Apples.  But before I ate my spaghetti I had to sit by my computer from 7 to about 7:15 refreshing my email waiting for Warner Bros. to send me the download links to the new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows trailer for my site, Magical-Menagerie! Then we all watched it a few times after dinner, you can watch it below or download it in high resolution here!
(beach outfit: skirt - Hollister $5, bathing suit - XOXO $10)

Tuesday:Woke up with HORRIBLE sunburn, red all over my shoulders, had breakfast and went to the beach from 10-3. I stayed under the umbrella almost the whole time except for going in the water for a bit.  I also sat on the blanket in my black coverup and my aunts huge straw hat ;p  Then we went to visit them at their campsite that night from at 6-10 and had tacos! Then sleep.
campsite outfit: skirt - American Eagle $25, Tank - American Eagle $6 (afterwards added a cardigan and sweatpants because it got cold)
Wednesday:  Woke up and my sunburn was a bit better but still hurting. But now I have hives all over my legs and some of my arms, YUCK!  Went to the beach from 10-1 and stayed back at the house instead of going back down because it was really windy outside!  Then we went to George's in Galilee, RI (another recommendation!) for dinner, and walked into a few shops.

I was bad and got a skirt inside a shop called "Softouch".  I'm still not sure if I should keep it or sell it, what do you think? Be brutally honest.  I think its fun but I'm not sure if it's too weird.  I also will need to find some tops for it...XD  It is by "Freak Street, visions by shop therapy" and apparently it is a guy named Joey Mars that makes them
front, back and detail (click to make lots larger)
Then after all that fun, my sister and I drove home since I had work tomorrow.  I shall be nice and tan for work tomorrow, hopefully my burn will turn the rest of the way into a tan (it still burns a bit now) and my hives will be gone. (I prepared this post Wednesday night if you couldn't guess by this last paragraph ;) )
