I started off this month with two big purchases during Roundabout Resale's Summer sale.  I picked up two dresses that couldn't be more different. I wanted to get just one but couldn't decide.  I've worn one already and hope to wear the second soon!

At the end of the month I bought two pairs of brown heels from The Real Real (been searching for months.) Funnily enough, both pairs were never worn, even though they were consigned! How lucky did I get?! Thankfully the cheaper pair, by Prada, fit perfectly so it was a no brainer to keep those. The Chloe heels were a teeny bit too big, but that made it easier to return them. Keep an eye out as they'll probably be back in stock on the site soon!

Next month we start with a clean slate as we're entering Fall buying!

I made my bi-yearly Net-a-Porter Sale purchase this month and was pretty well behaved. I bought a dress and a bathing suit and paid only $16 after advertising money.  I always try to wait until the end of the sale to buy my items hoping they'll be further reduced. When I do this I risk the item selling out before I can get it, but I don't really NEED anything new, so it's a good way to discipline myself. In the past I have bought pieces right away if I felt like it was something that I couldn't live without.  I also ordered a fun tee during French Connection's Extra 70% off sale items promotion.

I only bought three things this month, one was some navy sandals I've been needing for my Summer wardrobe, the second some new denim shorts and the third a ring while on vacation. Not too bad! The sandals were a bit of a splurge but I was having trouble finding a perfect pair of navy sandals.

Two days left in the month, hopefully I don't buy anything new this weekend! But if I do, I'll update the post. After my vacation I tried really hard to not buy any clothes (or other unnecessary items) to help recoup my bank account.

I ended up having to buy a few bits and bobs, like a new battery for one of my computers, (ugh) and I couldn't resist a Madewell sale, where I bought 2 basics with advertising money! They haven't arrived yet so I have no photos. But I behaved for the rest of the month!

I'm back from my European Adventure! And just in time for my wardrobe recap! I went on my trip with a list of items I wanted to buy. A "big" item in each place (Paris, London, Greece) and gifts. I ended up not really buying clothes/accessories in London and Paris but made up for it in Greece with some Chanel sunglasses (wanted these, but went for a cheaper pair) and a new pair of Ancient Greek Sandals (the only specific thing on my list)

UPDATE: Added what I bought at Clinton Crossing's Spring Preview event and jeans I forgot to add earlier!

Starting this month I'm no longer doing the traditional French Wardrobe Challenge. I made it through one year, which is pretty darn good! So now I think I have learned quality over quantity and basics over crazy pieces. From now on I'll just be mindful of my purchases and try to stick to buying mostly basics.

I did a pretty good job this month with a few exceptions.  I splurged on two rings from Lumo that I've had my eye on, but I used advertising money I had in PayPal so they were 'free.' I also scored a few deals that I couldn't pass up. One was a pair of silk pants from The Outnet that will be perfect for my trip to Greece (I also had to buy a navy tee to go with them.) The second was another pair of pants - faux suede and super soft!

From now until my vacation starts on April 11th I'm going to try not to buy ANYTHING (no clothes, no movies, nada!) And then during my trip I have a list of a few things I want to buy. When I get home I'm going to attempt a few months of no-shopping to get myself back on track after a rough tax season. In that way, freelancing sucks! Three huge chunks of money will be leaving my bank account within 3 months, thanks to 2014 taxes and 2015 quarterly taxes.

Can you believe February is already over?! I made it through the Fall/Winter portion of the challenge! From now on though, I think I'm just going to keep track of my purchases and try to stick to basics rather than doing the whole 6 month season by season thing. Because sometimes you need to buy Spring items in December...where does that go in the challenge? Who knows! But I'm glad I successfully completed the challenge for 1 year in the original form. Starting next month, my posts will have "French" removed from the title, ha ha.

I went to Roundabout's Winter Blowout sale (Westport location) on Valentine's Day and walked out with 3 great pieces! I spent $220 and the retail price of the items was at least $2200.  I also wanted a gorgeous Burberry Prorsum dress and 3.1 Phillip Lim dress but resisted them because I haven't really been wearing dresses lately. Kind of regretting the Burberry one... And my only other purchase this month was a $6 sweater from Target, quite the difference from the other purchases but I love it just the same! (Was in the wash when I was taking these photos, oops!)

But WAIT! There's more! (I hope you all read that like they say it in the infomericals) This past Saturday I got an email from Roundabout saying they were having an even bigger blowout on their Winter pieces for a limited time! So I texted Lydia and we met up to shop! They still had the Burberry dress, so I HAD to buy it, it was fate! I also bought a different Phillip Lim dress and a Balenciaga sweater dress that was brand new with tags! The Phillip Lim dress is missing from photos because my mom is repairing a small hole in it.

I'm still on vacation in Florida, but here's my wardrobe update for the month!

I went a little crazy this month with 5 new items. One was my DKNY sweater from Net-a-Porter's End of Season sale (see it in a post here). Then I got a gorgeous suede jacket from TJ Maxx. Finally, Piperlime had 60% off all their sale items so I took the opportunity to buy a few tank tops. Only worn one so far.

Happy New Years Eve!!! Before the celebrating begins, time to check on my progress for the wardrobe challenge! Near the beginning of the month, Everlane gave me $20 toward a purchase as a thank you for being a customer this year and I ordered two of their awesome tees. I usually buy the men's tees but decided to try a couple new women's tees! And before Christmas I picked up a new silver ring while out Christmas shopping.

I also got a few clothing items for Christmas! 3 of which I asked for, 2 my mom guessed on what I would like.  She got me a cardigan and BB Dakota sweater which I returned because it fit me a little weird.

I was doing so well this month, until this past Sunday when all hell broke loose. I went to the outlets with Lydia and spent far too much money and knocked out three of my seven items, ha ha. I was also gifted the Yama shoe from Naot, which was featured earlier this week. So four new items, not too bad. We'll see what happens this weekend though, Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales may be my downfall!

This month started off with some free clothes thanks to my Mom taking me birthday shopping! For the rest of the month I tried to resist buying clothes but, as we all know, I'm a shopaholic so I did a bit more shopping. I bought a purple leopard sweater, how could I resist two of my favorite things?!

I also splurged on a Lo & Sons bag after seeing one featured on Jessica's blog. I have a few vacations planned for next year and it will definitely come in handy for those as well as weekend trips! I've already used it a couple times since buying it, so handy!

I'm continuing with the French Wardrobe Challenge, but changing the rules a bit for myself. Looks like both Jessica and I had the same idea! I'm switching it from 5 to 7 items and allowing myself to buy as many shoes as my heart desires, within reason, of course. While I will still be discerning with all my purchases, it will be nice to have a little more freedom. I'm also going to be more lenient when it comes to "basics" by not restricting to black/white and gray since I wear a lot of burgundy and purple. I have a clothing budget for each month that I'm usually pretty good about sticking to, so that helps curb my purchases as well!  Will you be doing the challenge this season?
This first month I told myself I wasn't allowed to buy anything since I splurged on a pair of Chanel flats last month. But, as per usual, I couldn't  keep that promise. Most of what I bought was paid for with gift cards, so it wasn't a total fail! I did buy a new Marrin Costello necklace and a couple Altuzarra for Target pieces without gift cards. But the Target stuff would have sold out if I waited, so I had to, right? Not really a good excuse, but the collection had lots of purple and burgundy! What's a girl to do?
Near the end of the month I used up an Amazon gift card to buy a pair of Cole Haan sandals I've been wanting since May. They were the last size 8 in the purple color I wanted so I went for it! I paid more than the $49.99 price tag at Marshalls, BUT it was a gift card. The design is simple enough that I'll be able to wear them for years to come. They aren't technically a Fall item, so I won't include them in the remaining roundups.
While I wasn't totally successful in not buying anything I was thoughtful with my purchases, so it's alright.  This weekend my mom is taking my sister and I out birthday shopping (mine is in a couple weeks!) so maybe I'll be able to hold out the rest of the month and not buy anything... (doubtful)

The French Wardrobe Challenge is over!! I can't believe I made it through! I'd like to think I did a pretty good job. This month I added a new watch, which I desperately needed, and a cute new bathing suit that I don't need. I also found the EXACT Free People jeans I've been trying to replace for over a year, since I loved my first pair so much. They're used but they still have plenty of wear before they get as bad as my original pair. That's why I love eBay!

Also, if you recall, back in May I went to NYC for the Grand Opening of a new Marshalls store and after that I headed to one of Roundabout's New York locations. I tried on a GORGEOUS Jason Wu dress that I wanted since 2011. Sadly it was too expensive so I left it. BUT a couple weeks ago I went to my local Roundabout for the last day of their Summer Blowout Sale and, as if it were fate, there was the Jason Wu dress! No one bought it in NY so they shipped it over to my store and I got it for $136. It was originally $1995, their original price was $429. With the sale it was an additional 65% off AND ANOTHER 20% off! I also got a black Jason Wu shirtdress for $80, retail $990.

But, I was also really bad and bought a pair of Chanel flats on eBay. In my defense, I had been following them for MONTHS and the seller put them on sale and eBay was offering 4X eBay Bucks, so I made $40 back buying them...justifiable? I hope so! They are also a really cool texture and my favorite colors: burgundy and purple! They haven't arrived yet, so no photo except this.

While I did really enjoy the challenge I think I'm going to go a different direction for the next 6 months. I'm still going to try to only buy basic items but I'm not going to be soooo strict about non-basics.  I'll probably try to stick to a specific color palette so I don't go crazy with statement pieces,  or maybe instead of 5 I'll do 7.

      MY PROGRESS

      Part of my Five:
      Basics:
      Accessories:

Exempt:  Not counting any items I got from brands or bought for Marshalls Project FAB (bought with a gift card)

Winter Items: I'm still trying to limit these types of purchases, but I can't resist a good deal!
I added a couple new basics to my close this month, a new pair of sandals as well as a new sweater for the Winter (not sure I should have included it in here, but I bought it so I am.) You will also notice that one of my five items from the previous posts is missing. I decided to sell it because I don't think I will get much use out of it. Lesson learned. No more impulse thrifting buys.

I also bought a few things during Roundabout Resale's Summer Clearance. All the items were brand new with tags, how awesome is that?! A Burberry London dress, which is part of my 5 and a pink cashmere sweater that I'm putting under basics.  I also bought some crazy Tabitha Simmons boots that should technically be part of my 5, but they're Winter so I'm not counting them. They are in the photos anyway. [Oddly enough, I posted them back in 2011, how funny is that?!]
