Today I'm showcasing some new pieces I got courtesy of INPINK!  I chose two really cute necklaces, the
Long Purple Stone Open Circle Lariat Necklace  and the Handmade Silver Seashell Layered Necklace! I chose the first one because I love purple and the second one so whenever I feel like escaping to the beach I can throw it on! They have so many amazing pieces it was hard to choose, but in the end I went with necklaces because I hardly ever change my earrings and they're easier than bracelets because they don't get in the way when typing (yes, I'm strange.)

INPINK has also sent over a coupon code so you can get 30% off all jewelry on the site (excludes nail polish and gift cards.) Use code CLOSETFASH30, good until 9/1/2013.

A couple weeks ago Anjolee offered to send me one of their gorgeous anniversary rings for review. I chose the Vintage Diamond Anniversary Ring and it is definitely going to become one of my daily rings, even though it is more fancy.  They have so many great pieces of jewelry from diamond stud earrings to necklaces, bracelets and rings.  I was going to do an outfit shoot to show you the ring but I figured plain photos would show you its beauty better.

The ring comes in a beautiful box with nice padding to keep it safe. I'm a sucker for nice packaging so that is always a plus for me.  Just look how wonderfully it sparkles, the detailing is amazing.  Each diamond is set in a prong setting and bordered by a millgrain edge design. Even though it is listed as an anniversary ring I think it is a great gift for any occasion, even for yourself.
Look how beautifully it goes with the rings I inherited from my mother. Definitely a great addition to my regular ring rotation.

My bag says it all: You Can't Fake Fashion. There was a time, many moons ago, when I would have happily bought a counterfeit designer item, because I wasn't really thinking about the ethics of it all. But now I would never even think about buying an item that was a replica of a designer item.  If I want the real thing I will save my money up and buy it.  If I don't think it's worth the hefty price tag then I have no business owning a fake. What are your views on fake pieces?

Stores like Zara, H&M and Forever 21 constantly copy high end designers and I would be lying if I said I never bought one of them (hello, Forever 21 Mary Janes that were copies of Miu Miu's, I have since gotten rid of those.) While this is still not okay (in my point of view,) I don't think it falls under the same category as pretending your item is the real deal.

UPDATE:  Obviously it is impossible to know whether anything you buy is a copy of a designer, so this definitely leaves room for personal preference.  I know I've bought something and later I find out that it looks like a designer piece. And I'm not saying it is always a bad thing, especially seeing as I used to do a feature called "Lust, Love, Less" where I would help readers find items for less.  It is a thin line and it is up to your point of view.

Why am I talking about this, do you ask? Well...I grabbed this bag from the free table at work because it is something that really needs to be put out there. Counterfeit is not okay and more people need to speak up about it. So, eBay and the CFDA started selling these totes (along with some created by designers) to raise awareness; check out the eBay page here. That's a lot of words for such a simple look, so I will let the rest of the outfit speak for itself.

P.S. I just bought 3 of these t-shirts from Everlane because I heard they were some of the softest out there, and they do not disappoint! You can't beat the price either, only $15!

Tee: Everlane, Leather Jacket: Theyskens Theory (Nordstrom Rack), Jeans: Rag & Bone (Shopbop), Heels: Lanvin (Roundabout Resale), Sunglasses: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Shopbop), Necklace: SparkleFarm, Watch: Skagen (Rue La La), Earrings: Urban Outfitters, Rings: Urban Outfitters, Mom's and c/o Anjolee, Bag: eBay

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Since I don't have my own Valentine, I'm giving away a fun pink skull cuff from Jules Smith which retails for $49!  The jewelry line was founded by Gina Nigrelli-Smith; "her design aesthetic swaggers back and forth from 60s post-modern to 70s boho and 80s glam."  The pieces range from simple and classic to edgy, so there's something for everyone! I'm personally obsessed with the Snake Charmer Cuff and Lucky Strike Necklace (Harry Potter Forever!)

You guys have probably noticed by now that I don't really wear a lot of jewelry. When I first started the blog I never wore it but now I at least wear my watch, 2 rings and 31 Bits bracelets. What you don't know is that I have amassed a nice collection of old jewelry over the years. I know you all probably have 10 times the amount of jewelry I have but I never wear it so it doesn't really matter, ha ha. I am going to try to start wearing it more often, but we'll see how that goes.

Warning: There is a lot of text in this post because I wanted to explain the pieces...
So today I decided to show you some of the pieces I've been handed down from various family members (mostly my mom and Grandmothers).  But first is a jewelry box my Grandfather made me (he made one for all the girls).
These next two aren't exactly jewelry, but they are still heirlooms and pretty.  The first is a watch/pendant/thing that was my Grandmother's (my Dad's mom) and the second is her perfume.  I got both of these when she passed away over 10 years ago.  My mom, aunts, sister and I went though her jewelry and each got to pick out items we liked. I chose the watch because it was cool, and her perfume so I could always smell it when I missed her.
Next up are some rings! I bought the one with the opal and green stone in Rhode Island when I was a little.  It was from this awesome store in Newport, Geoclassics, where everything was made from natural stones. We had gone there the previous year and I only had enough money to buy a stone egg (for $7,) so the next year I saved up and spent a whopping $35 on the ring. The other three are my Mother's, two of which I wear every day.
Now earrings!  Almost all of these were from my late Grandmother.  The diamond/CZ crosses are from one of my Aunt's, and the hearts with CZ are another gift.  Then the plain diamonds at the bottom are what I wear every day, I rarely take them out.  They were a gift from my Grandmother (my Mom's mom, who is still alive.) She bought them for me when I was a senior in high school because I was "retiring" from gymnastics.  She got them for me as a reward for my dedication, I was a gymnast for 13 years and was only stopping because the college I was going to didn't have a team.

These last two were bought when I was younger on various vacations. I believe I bought the necklace in Rhode Island and it is made out of tons of purple shells (my favorite color!) It fits more like a choker now so I don't wear it as much. And I know you all recognize the other item...a mood ring!!! Who didn't have one of these when they were a pre-teen?
Today I am featuring a jewelry company that supports an amazing cause, 31 Bits. 31 Bits is a business using fashion and design to empower women to rise above poverty. They offer a variety of different programs for the women they work with in Uganda, which you can learn about here, more information about their business model is as follows:
We’ve combined successful development approaches with current design and fashion to create an innovative program for our women. We purchase jewelry from each woman on a monthly basis, providing them with an immediate, consistent, and fair income. Each piece of jewelry is handmade using 100% recycled paper and other local materials. By selling these products in the international market, we are able to generate a profit that is used to continue purchasing jewelry for our beneficiaries, as well provide them with numerous development programs, equipping them to develop a career and attain social equity on a local level. We are committed to working with each woman until she has graduated from our program and attained a sustainable means of income within her own community.
I am always a fan of companies that support a good cause so I will definitely be sure to keep checking up on 31 Bits to see all their new products. Their Spring collection, entitled Chasing Daylight, is amazing. I love the color scheme, especially the fuchsia. They were kind enough to send me a few bracelets to style, so here we go with an outfit! I tried to go for a modern hippie look, not sure I succeeded though...

Before I get to my post check out my feature on Smashion!

Yesterday we had the day off work for President's Day.  I was looking forward to being very productive, doing a fun outfit shoot and relaxing. But that didn't happen. I did nothing until 4pm and then I decided to finally do something.  I got out my fashion magazines that I picked up from my parent's house yesterday to read and took some photos of my new Alligator pin! I actually got this a few weeks ago when I visited a friend at Yale, but haven't found the perfect way to wear him yet.  Then I realized that he matches my DKNY coat perfectly! So he has a new permanent spot in my closet and will finally start seeing the daylight! (in the summer I'll have to find some other ways to wear him)

Coat: DKNY, Pin: Laila Rowe in New Haven $10, Magazines: Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire
