This past Saturday I met up with Lydia to check out Roundabout's sale (50% off! & a sidewalk sale where items were $10-$25.) Since I liked my Thursday outfit so much, I decided to wear it again so Lydia could photograph it. At Roundabout I tried on a bunch of pieces & walked out with 2 things (photo) I won't wear that often but had to purchase. It's like an episode of Resale Royalty I saw a couple weeks ago, sometimes I buy pieces to fulfill a fantasy life I wish I had. But that's okay as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

I bought a pair of velvet Balenciaga pants that retailed for almost $1000. I paid $35 because they were 75% off plus an extra 50% off! I also picked up a gorgeous Tracy Reese dress with a fun scale-like print for $59 (regularly $475 if eBay is to be believed.) At this point I have nowhere to wear it, but hopefully I'll be invited to a wedding or something soon!

After shopping we had a quick bite to eat and stopped at The Historical Christmas Barn to check out their sale. My sister used to work there and they always have really cute stuff. Before we went our separate ways, we took our outfit photos on a cute stone path behind the store. Prepare for a deluge of photos! (I said deluge like Dori in The Hobbit, he says it funny)

July is already halfway over...what is this madness?!  Right about now I am in vacation countdown mode, only one week to go and I'll be spending a blissful week in a beach house right across the street from the beach in Rhode Island!

I wore my new Marc Jacobs dress on Monday and I love it! It is super comfortable and I love the fun detail at the bottom. The only problem is it wrinkles SUPER easy (and I don't own an iron...) I'll just have to drive the long 5 minutes to my parents house when it needs to be ironed. I also wore a pencil skirt to work for the first time ever...what?!  But this skirt that I got for $10 at Coco's needs to be shown off, so I wore it with the sweater my grandmother made for my mom (who then passed it on to me) to dress it down.

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to be invited to The Sunday Spill, a special event hosted by Vogue.  The Sunday Spill is a weekly feature on the magazine's website and they decided to turn it into an event; see yesterday's post.  It was a great intimate event on the roof of Elizabeth Arden's Red Door Spa.  The spa is beautiful and if I ever want to spend a day at the spa pampering myself I will definitely make it a Red Door Spa, luckily there is one a little closer than New York.

Vogue's Beauty Director Catherine Piercy hosted the event where she discussed the top nail trends of the summer season, while we enjoyed manicures and refreshments. Her three categories of the day were The New Neutral, Neoprene Brights and Power Pastels. I had such a great time getting my manicure (thanks Carmen!) and meeting some new friends.  I decided on one of the neutral colors, which was like a rose gold, called Buy Me A Cameo by Essie.

I was having difficulty picking out my outfit because it was a VOGUE event, but in the end I decided to forget about that and just went with a simple, comfortable outfit! It was supposed to rain, luckily I was spared, but it was very muggy out.

What I Wore: Sweater: Made by Grandma, Dress: Elle (Kohl's), Sandals: Seychelles (DSW), Purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Shopbop), Sunglasses: Ray Ban "Emma"  (Marshalls),  Necklace: Francesca's, Watch: Skagen (Rue La La), Earrings: Urban Outfitters, Rings: Urban Outfitters, vintage & Mom's

I was not paid to write this post, I just enjoyed the event and wanted to share the experience!
One of the big trends for this year is oversized.  Luckily my mom gave me this old sweater of my dad's, which was made by my Grandmother, that fits the bill perfectly!  My tip for wearing oversized pieces is to go easy with the accessories and wear something a bit more form fitting on the bottom (or top if your bottom is the oversized piece.) A lot of the runways were showing oversized pieces all around, but that's not too flattering for most normal sized women.

I wore this last Monday when I went home for birthday celebrations for my mother and I (her birthday is 2 days before mine). It was just me, my mom, dad, one of my brothers and my sister. We had Chinese food, cupcakes, cake and opened silly presents. I also realized during dinner that I had put my sweater on backwards...oops!

Sweater: Made by Grandma, Jeans: Free People (Gilt Groupe), Heels: Lanvin (Roundabout Consignments) $80,   Purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Shopbop)

Here are some oversized pieces I would love to add to my closet, with some commentary by yours truly.:
We had such amazing weather last Wednesday so I decided to wear a sweater my mom passed down to me. My Grandmother made it a LONG time ago and my mom used to wear it all the time, too bad she didn't give it to me earlier this Summer, I could've gotten a lot more use out of it! But no matter, I'll wear it again next year too.

She also gave me two long sleeve sweaters my Grandmother made, one is a pink one she made for my mom, the other is really over-sized because it was made for my dad and he doesn't wear it anymore! Total score because over-sized pieces are on trend this season, and this is even better than buying something because whenever I wear it I'll be reminded of my Grandma.

This post is dedicated to my Grandmother who passed away almost 11 years ago. RIP Grandma.

There are places I remember, all my life, though some have changed. Some forever not for better, some have gone and some remain. All these places have their moments, with lovers and friends I still can recall, some are dead and some are living. In my life I've loved them all.
