Well this has been a crazy week. We had no work on Monday because the power was still out from Irene. Then Tuesday stuff started to go back to normal. After work I went back to my new place and my roommate and I went for a walk to the beach since we hadn't done it yet and we moved 2 weeks ago...shameful!  Our house was flooded from the hurricane so we are slowly getting the carpets dry and cleaning them, not fun, but that's what we get for living near the water.

This weekend is a 3 day weekend because of Labor Day, SCORE! Saturday I'm going to NYC to meet up with one of my favorite bloggers, you'll find out who soon enough but I'm keeping you in suspense (unless you read my Twitter, then you may have seen). We're going to do some shopping, eating and maybe some drinking too if we're feeling wild enough! Then I have no plans for Sunday and Monday, I'll probably just hang around the house and watch movies.

I decided to do something a little different with my hair this morning so I did a French braid! What do you think?!
I got into work early today just so I could post this around the normal time instead of tonight when I go back to my old place to watch project runway. :p I can't wait until we have Internet and tv at my new place!
Today marks the end of the celestemichelle giveaway! I have chosen a winner with random.org. Comment #15 won, that comment was left by Nicole! CONGRATULATIONS! I will be emailing you soon with details.

And now time for my August 2011 recap! I spent money this month, but NONE of it was on clothes, just stuff for my new house! GO ME! Well, technically I did buy clothes [the 2 ShopBop sweaters], but I had a gift card so it wasn't "real" money ;)

I think knowing that I had to spend a lot of money on stuff for my house motivated me to keep with my spending challenge. Hopefully next month goes as well...but I doubt it seeing as I'm going shopping in NYC this weekend with another blogger and need a bit of retail therapy after all the stressfulness of this past month. But after this weekend I plan on being a good girl again, i'm giving myself a break for ONE day, but in NYC that could be very bad...I could do some major damage ;)

I'm slowly finding it easier to say no to a lot of pieces that I want but don't need. My problem, however, is that I still say no to pieces that I want and would compliment my wardrobe. I look closely at the purchase and ask myself:
  • Is this item durable, will it be able to withstand being worn a LOT without dying?
  • Is this something that will transition for use in all 4 seasons (or most)?
  • Can I wear it when I'm older?
  • Is it too trendy?
  • If it is a trend, is it something that I know I will still like and wear even when it goes "out of style"?
What sort of questions do you ask yourself when your deciding on making a purchase?

And finally, for a bit of fun, net-a-porter emailed with some news! They have made a Weekend Chic shop where you can find your perfect Labor Day outfit! ALSO, you can purchase the Net-a-Porter Fall/Winter 2001 Magazine for $11! "The Fall Winter 2011 magazine is your must-have guide for the hottest new-season trends. With 160 glossy pages of high-fashion editorial content, it's packed full of inspirational shoots, styling ideas, designer interviews and beauty tips, as well as our edit of the chicest runway looks to keep you on-trend."

The Alexander McQueen Resort 2012 collection is amazing as always. Sarah Burton is doing SUCH a great job in keeping Lee's vision for the house. She has put her own touch on it, but it has the same feeling. Okay, so the model in these photos may be abnormally thin so no normal person will look like her in these clothes, but they are GORGEOUS! I am in love with all the jackets.

Since I got my new Madewell sweater [free because I won a gift card] I decided to come up with a fun outfit for it! Obviously I can't afford these pieces but this is an ideal way I would wear this sweater come Fall. It can also be worn very simply with just jeans so be prepared to see that a lot over the coming weeks.
Sweater - Madewell $68
Skirt - Rochas $1150
Boots - ACNE $660
Watch - Michael Kors $250
Necklace - Carolee $195
Total - $2323
So, here we FINALLY have some photos of my closet and bedroom at my new house!! First up is my very small bedroom.  It is full of my Harry Potter stuff, and if you can believe it this is probably only 20% of my collection or less...I couldn't bring it all because there wasn't enough room.  Once we get internet I'll also be adding a mini table to the side wall for my computer.

Excuse the bad quality of these photos, I took them at night and I only have 1 light in each room so it was a bit dark. Hopefully both rooms still look the same after Irene...I still haven't been back home yet. I'm going back after work today so I'm crossing my fingers that everything is alright.

And now, my favorite room in the house...MY CLOSET!  I am so glad I finally have room to spread out all my clothes so it is easy to see everything I have.  This has made me realize that I hardly have any nice tops...I have like 2 that I wear, ha ha. Gotta rectify that, but that will be a bit difficult since I'm not really supposed to shop for clothes.  I also want more blazers for Fall... *sigh*

[I scheduled this last night, but we still have power...for now]

Here we are with the second installment of Obscure Movies! Today I'm featuring a movie based on the classic story of King Arthur and Merlin! But in this case it is after Merlin is gone and Arthur is an old man. It's called A Kid in King Arthur’s Court, came out in 1995 and stars Thomas Ian Nicholas as well as more well known actors Daniel Craig and Kate Winslet!
Young Calvin Fuller is pulled into King Arthur's court by Merlin. His mission: to save Camelot. To do this he must overcome the villain known as Lord Belascoe, train to become a knight, and rescue the Princess Katherine whom he has fallen in love with him. Ultimately, He must help Arthur regain his confidence before he can go home.
This movie is quite amusing and those of you who are around my age will find some pretty funny things in it...such as the CD Walkman, roller blades and so many other things that were popular when we were younger!

So run to see the movie and if you don't watch it, run and don't stop until thou reachest KUKAMUNGA!!! (haha...when you see the movie you'll understand)
This week was pretty good. I'm basically settled in my new place; my bedroom and closet are finished. We are just waiting for my friends uncle to bring some couches for the living room and then we're done (Except for internet/tv and a tv stand. Right now we're using my computer table)! I am staying home this weekend because of Hurricane Irene (my new place might get flooded because it is so close to the beach...OH NO!) so I won't be back at my place until Monday night...but the bright side is I have real internet all weekend! Unless the power goes out that is...its supposed to and it could be out for up to a week *dies* That would be BAD! But sorta good because then I might not have to go to work on Monday ;) (shame on me for saying that)

I took some photos of my room and closet that I'll prepare for posting soon, I'll do the rest of the house when it's all done! I think my closet may be my favorite room in the house, ha ha. Its so nice having so much space for my clothes! (Not shoes though, my shelves are almost full, I'll have to put any new shoes on the floor, ha ha)

Monday: Dress: Twitch Vintage $17, Sandals: Simply Vera Wang $20, Frog Necklace: c/o ShopNBC, Watch: Michael Kors, Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs

[haha, went AE crazy today...]
I have been on quite the jewelry kick lately in posts, right? Well, now I have something for you guys, celestemichelle has offered one of my readers the chance to win a one of a kind necklace! I am quite jealous of whoever wins, you will be getting a GORGEOUS necklace made specifically for the giveaway by Michelle, the owner of celestemichelle. It will have a swarovski glass drop pendant, pave crystal ball and a semi quartz stone.  Here is a photo of the necklace the winner will receive, click to enlarge:
According to celestemichelle, "The DNA of the celestemichelle brand is inspired by sights, sounds, and experiences from travels around the world—Paris, London, Marrakesh, Brooklyn, Kingston, Hong Kong, Amorgos, Santorini, Phuket, Bali, Jogjakarta, and Brussels to name a few." The celestemichelle girl is someone who is as savvy risk taker with a bold personality and great style. Do you fit that description? (I am sure you do!) Before we get to the rules of the giveaway here are some pieces that I am TOTALLY in love with:
To enter the giveaway you MUST be a follower of Closet Fashionista (with google or bloglovin) and LIKE celestemichelle on Facebook.  Also, head over to the celestemichelle website and let me know what your favorite piece is!  The giveaway is open until September 1st [well, 11:59 on August 31st] and is open to US readers (sorry international girls, hopefully I'll have a giveaway for you soon)!

For extra entries do any or all of the following. Leave a separate comment for each additional entry because  I will be using random.org to pick a random comment number.
Carven always has such amazing structured skirts (and other pieces), I have wanted one for a long time but sadly they are out of my price range.  That doesn't stop me from drooling at the collections though, their Resort 2012 collection is the perfect mix of structured and girly! I love when collections want me to be "that girl" in the clothes, I can imagine myself at work and play in these looks.

UPDATE: Oops, haha...a minor coding mistake made one of the images huge, it's all better now though, thanks to Marusya for letting me know...it was a little early this morning so I didn't even check my post after it went up XD
Last week I won the BonBonRoseGirls ShopBop gift card giveaway, WAHOO! So I scoured almost every page of the site to find things to buy. There were a few things I REALLY wanted but they were way more than the gift card so I had to pass (since I'm not supposed to be spending money on clothes). In the end I settled on 2 sweaters. Here they are:

Madewell - Buy It!

Ami Dans La Rue - Buy It!
What do you think? Good choices? (I certainly hope so...haha)

They are probably at my parent's house right now [that still sounds funny] waiting for me, today was the delivery day! Sadly I won't get them until Friday because that's the next time I'm going home (so I can watch Project Runway). I guess I could stop on my way to my new house but I can wait a couple more days, it won't kill me.

Thanks again to Kristin, Megan and ShopBop!
