I decided to take my own advice and dressed Parisian-ish yesterday. This obviously isn't as awesome as the outfits I posted yesterday but I worked with what I had! I bought this perfectly striped sweater at Banana Republic on Saturday for only $9.97...SCORE! Went straight to the clearance section and kept digging hoping I would find something under $20 and, luckily, I did! I feel a bit Where's Waldo in this because it's so colorful, but that's okay...we can all use a little whimsy in our lives.
Sweater: Banana Republic $10, Pants: ASOS $35, Flats: Missoni for Target $30, Sunglasses: MICHAEL Michael Kors (Marshalls) $20, Bracelets c/o 31 Bits, Rings: old and c/o OASAP, Watch: Michael Kors, Purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs

The latest issue of NET-A-PORTER's online magazine featured all things French and was called "The Paris Portfolio"! The issue contains interviews with fashionable French women such as Isabel Marant, French designers to keep a lookout for, beauty tips, how to dress with the simplicity of the French and much more! There is also a video where French women (and men) talk about the secrets of French style.
Doesn't it make you jealous how effortless they look all the time?! Well today I have a few quick tips on how you can dress like the beautiful Parisian hiding inside of you! (that sounded weird, but let's pretend it makes sense) I've decided to create a couple looks using some of the classic french pieces we all know and love: the striped shirt, skinny pant, flats and the trench!
You can put your own twist on this look and come up with infinite variations that fit your own personal style. For example, you can wear a striped top with sequins on it (or perhaps different types of stripes), trade the pants for shorts or switch the basic flats for sequin brogues or flat sandals. You also want to make sure you keep your accessories simple, the French are known for not going over the top.
Sweater - J.Crew
Pants - J Brand Denim
Flats - Marc by Marc Jacobs
Trench - Burberry Brit
Necklace - Mathais Chaize
Purse - Marc by Marc Jacobs
Sweater - Etoile Isabel Marant
Pants: Paul & Joe
Flats - Repetto
Trench - A.P.C.
Watch - Gucci
Purse - DKNY
Would you guys like me to do a Dress for Less version of the Parisian look? Let me know in the comments and, if enough of you want, it I'll whip one up!
For more inspiration on dressing this way, I suggest you check out Becky May's blog: The Flower Girl. She may be a Brit but she dresses like a Parisian, I am in awe of how simply she dresses - she always looks amazing.

Mother's Day (in the US) is in a little under 2 weeks, so I figured I would do a quick gift guide featuring one of my new(ish) favorite jewelry stores, 31 Bits! I have been a bit obsessed with 31 Bits since I featured them in February. I wear my bracelets every single day, they go with everything! For those of you that missed it the first time, 31 Bits uses fashion and design to empower women to rise above poverty by offering a variety of different programs for the women they work with in Uganda, learn more about it here. Here are some pieces I think any mother would love:

31 Bits is celebrating Mother's Day by using limited edition gift bags as well as personalized gift tags on all purchases, you can write a personalized note for your Mom and they will put it on the tag for you! This is available until May 13th, so be sure to order soon to get your gift in time for Mother's Day!

This week was beautiful!! It was also my first week of leaving at 3:30 every day, I only gained an hour of time after work but it was glorious! Monday it was 85 degrees so I headed to the beach to read for an hour. The rest of the week was equally lovely but I stayed inside. I've been researching online courses in fashion so I can hopefully get my dream job soon. I was thinking of taking fashion history courses and maybe even some more marketing classes that are specifically geared toward fashion. Anyone have suggestions? I was thinking maybe Parsons... I don't really have much else to say so enough of my blabbing, here are my looks from the week!

Tricked you with that title, didn't I? You thought I had a boyfriend...psh! The "Boyfriend" I'm referring to in the title is my boyfriend jeans I got years ago that I never wear anymore. I decided I needed to rectify that and wore them on a shopping trip on Saturday! I always thought I couldn't wear them to work but I realized that if I just switch the sweater for a blazer I might be able to get away with it, right?
Jeans: American Eagle $15, Tank: Ellen Tracy $12, Sweater: American Eagle $0, Sandals: Miu Miu (eBay), Purse: Chanel, Bracelets c/o 31 Bits, Rings: old & c/o OASAP, Watch: Michael Kors , Sunglasses Michael Kors (Marshalls) $20
I got up bright and early on Saturday to head to Lord & Taylor because their Friends and Family sale was starting and who says no to 25% off everything and 10% off cosmetics! I wasn't too lucky in the clothing department, but I did get an amazing Ralph Lauren dress, a bit of a splurge at $112, but it was regularly $200 with 25% off and then my 25% off coupon! (The pictures don't do it justice)
Then I headed to the Chanel makeup section and got a new Vitalumiere Aqua Cream Compact foundation (trying out a different kind this time), new Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in Elise and a Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzer. I have never used bronzer before but each time I buy makeup I try to get something new, last time it was blush. So now I have almost a complete collection: foundation, mascara, eye shadow, blush, bronzer and an eye concealer...haha! What else do I need?...
Then it was off to DSW to return/exchange the Marc by Marc Jacobs heels I bought a few months ago. I headed to the clearance section and found these amazing Seychelles sandals. They were originally $90, on sale for $59.95 and an extra 30% off, which brings us to $41.
Then I stumbled upon these amazing Gucci pumps, that go perfectly with the dress I wanted to wear to my cousins wedding in July [I had actually wanted the pink version that they had on their site but these were on sale because someone returned them...haha]! Sadly they are a half size too big (but I can just get something to put in the toes) & are not a color I would usually go for. But how could I pass up 30% off a clearance price of $269.95 PLUS $40 off PLUS $5 off (they are regularly $450)...taking us down to $144! The Marc Jacobs shoes I exchanged were $200, so in the end I actually got $15 back for buying 2 pairs of shoes...SCORE!

Well this was an interesting week. As many of you know I've been a bit unhappy with my situation at work (too stressful when it doesn't need to be that way...not a good environment,) well last week one of my bosses and I came to an agreement about my hours. I'll be leaving at 3:30 each day instead of 5, so hopefully that helps, if not I'll have to come up with another solution. This way I can focus a bit more on fashion during the day because my dream is to work in fashion, most likely web programming (front-end). It's going to take a lot of work and maybe some online courses in fashion history, etc. but I have a feeling some big changes are on the horizon!
Anywayyy, this week was odd in other ways too. On Monday night there was a huge brush fire in my town and I didn't hear about it until a friend called to see if I was okay, luckily I was... I went outside and the smell of smoke was in the air as well as ashes falling from the sky. The fire was far away from me but it was really windy so the ashes were flying all over the place. It was so eerie!
This weekend I'm planning on doing some major retail therapy. I have a 25% off coupon for Lord & Taylor (and 10% off cosmetics) so I see some awesome new clothes and perhaps some more Chanel makeup in my future! And maybe a stop at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I also have $40 for DSW!! (and grocery shopping...haha)
UPDATE: Bloggers, rejoice! I am no longer a shorts with tights virgin! Ever since I bought these Zara shorts I've been wanting to wear them with my Moschino jacket as sort of a pseudo suit, but the weather has never been just right. But today I decided that I would bite the bullet and utilize one of the trends I was always afraid of to make it work before it's too hot for the blazer: shorts with tights! What do you think, is it okay?... (the colors match a little better in person, ha ha)
