It's getting chilly out there! I hope everyone had a lovely first week of Fall. I enjoyed being able to wear only a sweater with no coat, for now. We better enjoy this in between weather while we can.  This was an interesting week. On Wednesday I was stuck working at home because train service to Grand Central was suspended due to a power failure.  It couldn't have happened on a better day, though. It was my sister's birthday so I was able to have dinner with my family to celebrate. The day before that my twin cousins celebrated their 18th birthday, that makes me feel so old (I'm 7 years older than them!) And pretty soon I'll be a quarter of a century old...time flies. Lots of birthday talk today, ha ha.

Unfortunately trains are going to be crazy for up to three weeks because of the power outage.  So I won't be able to go into the office until it's fixed.  I did not go in yesterday but you'll notice there is an outfit there. That's because that is what I planned on wearing on Wednesday (I got dressed Wednesday, drove to the train station and drove home) and then was going to wear yesterday so I figured I'd leave it since I had the photo. ;)\

I enjoyed this outfit so much a couple weeks ago that I decided to put it on again and take outfit photos to share more details. There's really not much to it, just a dress with a button up blouse on top. When I was at work someone asked me why I was so dressed up.  I guess it's because I have been a bit lazy with my outfits lately, but that's what happens during Summer, right?  It's so hot you don't want to think about what you're wearing.

Dress: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Gilt), Top: Equipment (sample sale), Flats: Missoni for Target, Necklace c/o Gorjana Griffin, Watch: Skagen (Rue La La), Rings: vintage & Mom's

On my last trip to Marshalls (when I was shopping for my brownies post) I came across an amazingly soft Max Studio blanket.  At only $20, I had to have it.  I walked by the pajama section and spotted a maroon pj set by Tahari that was also super soft and once again was only $20.  I haven't bought a pajama set in years, I usually just wear an old tshirt (or one of my brothers' old sweaters) and gymnastics sweatpants. It's so nice to have an actual matching set now. No lounge day would be complete without a nice mug of hot chocolate, so I picked up an adorable maroon mug to match the pajamas and some specialty hot chocolate mix.  Even my nail polish (OPI) is from Marshalls!

This is how you'll find me on most Fall/Winter days.  I love curling up with a blanket in my comfortable clothes with some hot chocolate and a good book or movie. Although I must admit it is usually a movie, I haven't been reading much lately. After we took these photos I settled down on the couch with my family for a Star Trek marathon because my parent's hadn't seen the new ones yet.

Speaking of parents, these photos are by my Dad. Photography is one of his hobbies (along with cars) and we have some of his photographs displayed in the house. I don't know why I haven't had him take my photos before. I guess it's because I feel awkward, we laughed a lot during this shoot. Maybe I'll ask him to do it more often, especially because he's the one with the nice camera, unlike me with my tripod & mid-range Nikon (which I am quite fond of, but it's no DSLR.)

Leather-trimmed crochet-knit jacket - $910

Metallic crochet-knit pants - $327

Patterned chenille scarf - $99

One of my favorite pieces of clothing has to be jeans. I can never have enough pairs, although I do resist buying them as much as I can. I've got printed jeans, dark jeans, light jeans, colored jeans, distressed, skinny, flared and the list goes on. In 2006, the store Trilogy was launched in London with one simple aim - to find everyone the perfect pair of jeans, in a friendly environment with expert help and advice.  They have four locations in London but their online store also ships internationally.  Trilogy, sell a range of J Brand Jeans so I thought I would choose a pair and create three different Fall looks! I picked the 485 Skinny In Luxe Sateen Carbon Blue because who can't use a great dark wash skinny jean?

Look 1: The Leather Jacket. Everyone needs a leather jacket in their wardrobe, but you don't need a boring black one.  Here I chose a fun purple one to pair with the jeans along with knee-high boots and printed top.

Look 2: The Ankle boots.  One of the easiest ways to dress up jeans is with a nice pair of ankle boots. But I kept this look a little more casual with the layered button up and sweater.  I think this would be a perfect look for a date night.

Look 3: Leather and Lace.  Pairing jeans with lace is a great way to add some femininity to your look and adding a pair of leopard heels gives the look some sassy-ness as well.

The weather is slowly taking a turn to Fall.  This week was rather chilly for the most part. People were wearing gloves which I thought was a bit extreme, I was still fine walking in my sweater - still no need for Winter coats yet, people!  But I'm excited for the arrival of fall - tights, hot chocolate and sweaters, yay!

Most people only think of Marshalls as a clothing store, but it is much more than that!  They carry a wide variety of home items as well. From pots and pans to plates and serving dishes, you can find all you need to create/present a delicious meal.  As part of my partnership with Marshalls I was sent a bunch of items and one of them was a container of Dulce de leche. I decided I would make some brownies and spread it over the top, then my cousin thought of the brilliant idea of adding some sea salt as well.

I headed to Marshalls with a mission: get everything I need to make and serve my brownies! I picked up 2 new baking dishes, some sea salt, and a nice cake plate/pedestal to display the delicious confections. They didn't have brownie mix at my particular Marshalls but I headed over to Home Goods (one of their partner stores) and they had a box so I snapped that up.  Then all that was left was to bake the brownies! Everything you see below is from Marshalls (except the brownie mix and blue plate which are from Home Goods.)

Monday I posted my outfit for the RewardStyle party so today I'm sharing some photos from the actual party! It was a lot of fun, Lydia and I met handbag designer Melanie of Mel Boteri and also caught up with Nnenna.  I even was brave and said hi to Margaret of Shine by Three who I've been following for years.

Today I'm featuring a great company, Ricefield Collective, it was started with with the aim of offering job opportunities to women in the Philippine's that have no steady source of income. The goal of the collective is to use handknitting as a way of maintaining the sustainability of life in Ifugao by training its villagers to make high-quality knitted items and other handicrafts.  You can read the full story over at their website.

They are having a presale right now where you can purchase hand knitted hats and cowls before the full web site and winter collection is launched in October!  I have my eye on this hat and cowl set in Navy and the spiral slouchy hats in a variety of colors!

Now the fun part! Ricefield Collective have offered up one of their great hats for a giveaway, I'm jealous, I want to win it for myself! To enter you must live in the US/Canada and be a follower of the blog.  Use the widget below to enter.  You will win your choice of color in the Upward Beanie!
