It probably wasn't the best idea to wear this top in the rain but I really wanted to wear these new pieces (seen here!) I definitely see both of these as being staples in the long run. I'm not usually one for basic button up blouses but since this one is sheer and has a fun print it's more "me."  These are the softest jeans I have ever owned, they are slightly tight but they will stretch out after more wears so it's fine, ha ha. Can't pass up on $41 Current/Elliotts now can I?

Seasons come and go and so do the seasonal fashion trends. It is difficult to continuously keep up with all the different new styles, hypes and ins and outs - especially when you have to be careful with your money. So it is important to have some timeless fashion pieces hanging in your closet that you can mix and match with anything that you like. In the end, a few enduring wardrobe essentials go a long way. Here is a list of staples for you.

Purchase a timeless timepiece
A timeless timepiece might sound like a little bit of a contradiction, but a watch is one of the very few items that bucks all talk of seasonal trends. Pick a watch that will work with any outfit, and that reflects your personality and personal style.

Get inspired by the motorcycle look
Bomber jackets and biker jackets have never gone out of fashion. They started gaining attention in the early fifties, where actors such as Marlon Brando and James Dean wore them on the big screen, and ever since they have been a popular style staple for both women and men. They will complete any summer outfit, and they are great for the autumn too! You can purchase some beautiful and affordable biker jackets from New look.

Complete your collection of black-and-white basics
By black-and-white basics I mean almost all everyday clothing items, as these shades are easy to combine with any outfit, and you will always look on-point and classy in them. My top choice would be black pants, preferably skinny jeans or wool blend trousers. Black-and-white tank tops too can be worn with, and under, almost any outfit that you choose to wear. If your black-and-white basics game is on trend, then you will be able to complete any look!

Buy a stylish wallet that fits your style
As read on MarieClaire.com, think of your wallet as a direct reflection of how you manage your lifestyle. Seeing as you use your wallet on multiple occasions a day, in locations such as stores, restaurants and public transport, having a purse that you feel confident about will make you feel great all day long.

Get yourself a LBD
Many women and fashion designers think of a little black dress as the most essential piece in a woman’s wardrobe. It is mentioned so often in books, magazines and on runway interviews. The little black cocktail dress even has its own abbreviation and had many songs written about it. Let style icons like Edith Piaf and Coco Chanel inspire you and find a gorgeous LBD for yourself!

Most of this week was quite lovely, with the exception of Monday when it rained and I had forgotten my umbrella in the office. Ugh.  Tuesday morning I headed to a sample sale and spent to much money. Then the rest of the week proceeded as usual...until Thursday. Long story short I ended up working from home and was supposed to go into the office today instead but there are flood warnings and I'm a bit nervous to take the train so I'm working from home again. Hopefully I don't get in too much trouble...but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Tuesday: Top: Winter Kate (Hautelook), Pants: American Eagle, Heels: Guess (Marshalls), Watch: Skagen (Rue La La), Earrings: Urban Outfitters, Rings: Urban Outfitters & Mom's
Wednesday: Top: H&M, Sweater: Abercrombie (Coco's $5 sale), Pants: Maison Scotch c/o Aritzia and Lucky, Necklace c/o by boe, Heels: Manolo Blahnik (Roundabout), Watch: Skagen (Rue La La), Earrings: Urban Outfitters, Rings: Urban Outfitters & Mom's
Another weekend outfit for your enjoyment, although I would wear this to work too (with heels) because I'm lucky enough to work in a creative environment. I think Summer is finally here to stay!  This weekend was sooo hot! I had to steal an air conditioner my parents weren't using for my bedroom, so now I'm ready for all the heat Summer sends my way! This is what I wore to see Star Trek Into Darkness for the second time...it was hot outside but I knew it would be chilly in the theatre so I opted for jeans. If I wasn't going to the movies I would have worn shorts or a skirt instead. But there's plenty of time for that so I may as well wear jeans while I still can.

I've been doing a lot of shopping lately...oops. But I have been pretty good about not spending too much the past few months. As of right now I am going to try not to shop until the final reductions in the Net-a-Porter sale, which should be in a few weeks.  Here's a roundup of my recent purchases:

I picked up 2 Equipment blouses and Current/Elliott Jeans at a sample sale yesterday. I have been searching for an Equipment blouse in my size that wouldn't break the bank and when I saw signs for a sample sale on Monday night I HAD to stop in on Tuesday before work! The blouses were $50 each. Expensive, yes, but cheaper than anywhere else, so I pounced. I bought a Brett blouse in purple (with some taping) and a Sophie blouse in pink/purple animal print! I also have been wanting a new pair of skinny jeans in a light wash (I haven't had any in a couple years) and these were only $41 as opposed to over $200! Perfection! They are SO soft, I wanted to die when I touched them, obviously I didn't.

Zara: I bought these adorable animal print shorts and floral print top. I also picked up this playsuit but it didn't fit me right.

Marshalls: Picked up these B.O.C. sandals to walk to work in. So far, so good!

Hautelook: Bought this Winter Kate top with store credit! Isn't it cute? It's not my usual style but I'm trying to branch out.

Roundabout Resale: This was my splurge...Manolo Blahnik sandals. I never thought I would own a pair, but when I was checking out Roundabout a couple weekends ago (they were having 20% off for Memorial Day) I saw a pile of white boxes and one shoe perched on top. I looked and they didn't have my size. The closest they had was a 9.5 so I tried them just for fun and surprisingly they FIT!  I walked around the store trying to decide and then bit the bullet and got them. After all, when do you have to chance to buy MANOLOs for 70% off retail. Exactly. :)  Aren't they amazing?!

I wore this a couple weekends ago to run some errands (grocery store, returning some clothes, etc.) A perfectly simple and comfortable outfit, just the way I like it! I'm still on the hunt for a replacement for these Free People jeans because they're slowly dying, they are my absolute favorites and Free People doesn't make them anymore.  My perfect pair of jeans needs to be: dark wash, skinny, no design on the back pocket and the stitching needs to match the jeans.

(As of this weekend I would have died wearing this outfit. Summer came very quickly!)

Sweater: Banana Republic, Jeans: Free People (Gilt Groupe), Flats: B.Ø.C (Marshalls), Bag: Ralph Lauren (Lord & Taylor), Watch: Skagen (Rue La La), Earrings: Urban Outfitters, Rings: Urban Outfitters, Mom's

Are there some gaps in your wardrobe this season? I hope so, because with the number of incredibly exciting trends hitting the catwalks, you have some catching up to do. From sheer-panelled dresses prompting a bit of a ‘side bum’ craze, to eyebrow-raising cut-out numbers, the stars are daring to bare almost all in the name of fashion with some of the most exciting trends we’ve seen for some time.

You’ll be glad to hear that Summer 2013 is not entirely about naked flesh though. In fact, unless you’re particularly body confident and have spent some hardcore hours at the gym this winter, I would advise against going too far down this route. Thankfully, there are also some very exciting and super-wearable trends around too, which you can embrace wholeheartedly with just a few essential pieces.

1. A jazzy jacket - My, my - this season brings us such a wealth of choice in the jacket department! From bold biker jackets to colourful stripes, this season you just need a smart, well-fitting jacket in your wardrobe to finish off any outfit. Lightweight jackets are perfect for the British summer, and if you make a good quality purchase, it will be your best friend over the coming months.

2. A teeny tiny bag - In a swift U-turn from the bucket bags and satchels of recent years, this season’s must-have accessory is the mini bag - a teeny-tiny slip of a bag, barely big enough for your iPhone. Naturally, it’s not the last word in practicality, but if you want to stay on-trend you’ll no doubt get used to carrying less and less junk around with you – who needs excess baggage anyway?
From the post Blue Jay Way

3. A stripy dress - Stripes are here, and they are chunky. No pinstripes for us, thank you very much. The stripes of 2013 are big, bold and colourful. Opt for a nautical air with stripes in navy/white or red/white, or go for something altogether more tropical with a mixture of chunky pastel stripes. The cut of the dress doesn’t matter as there’s something for everyone this season. So whether you prefer maxi elegance or bold bodycon, get it with stripes & you’ll be bang on trend.

4. A lacy top  - Feminine fabrics are so hot right now, and the resurgence in popularity of lace garments is a very welcome one for the girly girls. Add one really gorgeous lace top to your wardrobe this summer, and you’ll be wearing it at both work and play all season. Dress it up with a midi-skirt and ballet flats for the office, or wear it out with super-short Denim Shorts and pumps for a chilled-out beach babe look.

5. A pair of flatforms - Normally our feet are often put through several sorts of pain in order to keep up with the trends, but this year the stylists have given our poor tootsies a break with the introduction of the ‘flatform’. These chunky, funky shoes are a godsend for women who are sick of ridiculously high heels but who can’t bear the lack of height given by flats. Flatforms marry the comfort of flats with the height of platforms and encourage better posture, too. Style with extra comfort - what more could you want?

Happy Friday!! Don't you just love short weeks? They make me so happy.  This week was very odd weather-wise. Monday was gorgeous, then Tuesday and Wednesday were rainy and muggy. Then today it was 90 degrees... HOT HOT HOT. As you can see my clothing reflects that, slowly I wore less and less until I was as skimpy as I could go for work.

This weekend I have absolutely no plans, except I'm going to see Star Trek Into Darkness again, this time with my sister and her boyfriend.  I rarely go to the movies, so you know I love something when I see it twice. Although, the past few movies I saw in theatres I saw twice (Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit,) I guess that means I'm a good judge.

This past Monday (Memorial Day for those of you with short memories, or non-US citizens) rather than attending a picnic or party I spent the afternoon with Lydia and Christine.  We headed to one of our favorite places, The Chowder Pot for lunch, then took our obligatory outfit photos and finished the day with Frozen Yogurt (after which we decided we should have gotten Rita's Italian Ice or ice cream.)

The girls are always saying I need to wear these purple pants more, so I did it especially for them! The pants also went perfectly with my new Zara top! I'm not usually one to wear white but the print was so cute, look at the birdies! Aaaand I'm wearing my newest purchase, which I alluded to with this Instagram photo on Saturday.

As I posted quickly yesterday, the Net-a-Porter End of Season sale started! So begins one of my favorite times of the year. I love getting deals on designer pieces, but the trick is to wait until the final reductions, which takes a few weeks.  But if you do that, you run the risk of losing out on items you want, so if you REALLY want something - jump on it! It's a bit like playing chicken, see how long you can hold out before pulling the trigger. Make sure you keep checking back because they are always adding new items!

On the first day of the sale I go through every item and add anything I like to my cart, not matter what the price.  Yes, I am insane. But I have a system... After everything I like is in my cart I let it sit there, slowly items sell out and I go through and get rid of things I definitely won't wear. I also wait until the final reductions, which come in a few weeks. This is risky, but also good for my wallet.  If an item I have been lusting over for a long time shows up in the sale I may purchase it in the first round, but that is rare.  If I do that, I don't wear the item until the sale is over. Why do you ask? Because it could go more on sale and I can buy it again and return one (they don't do price adjustments during the sale) or I may find something better when final reductions start and I can return the more expensive piece in favor of something that is kinder to my wallet.

If you got through that whole rambling paragraph, congratulations! Here are a bunch of the items currently awaiting their fate in my cart. Scroll through the slideshows below to see the designers, prices and purchase (if you so desire.) The prices aren't updating in the slideshows so those are the normal prices, click through to see reduced pricing.

What's on your wishlist?

On Sunday I traveled the long mile and a half to my parents house for our Memorial Day barbeque. It was FREEZING (not really, but cold for this time of year) so I went in jeans and a sweater. I ended up having to borrow one of my Mom's big sweaters because it was really windy and we were sitting outside.

In other news, the Net-a-Porter US end of season sale started!!!!
