We were in Rhode Island for the 4th of July and instead of going to a crazy crowded beach we decided to visit a lighthouse by our beach house for a short while and then headed to The Umbrella Factory in Charleston, Rhode Island.  The Umbrella Factory is a pretty unique place. It's like a mall because they have a bunch of different shops, but they also have a small eatery, sell Del's lemonade (YUM!) and have EMUS and chickens. Yes, Emus! While we were there one tried to steal my brother's lemonade because he got too close.

Originally I was going to wear this crop top with my Everlane high waisted jeans but the weather forecast for the week we were in Rhode Island was HOT so I opted for my white jeans instead. I don't wear them often because I'm a little weary of getting white dirty but I think they really make the top pop. Thank you weather for making me change my mind! I also normally wear this top with something high waisted since it's cropped and blowing wind can be quite revealing, but I like it with the lower rise as well.

The purpose of our trip to Rhode Island was for a family reunion with my Mom's side of the family. Unfortunately for us, it was the hottest day of the year and we were outside all day. Wearing this tiny romper with a cutout in the back let me have a nice breeze even though it was at least 90 degrees. When I first got this romper I wasn't sure how often I was going to wear it, but I've worn it more than I originally thought. I only paid $27 for it on Gilt so I don't feel as bad for only wearing it a few times a year. It's a great statement piece to bring out for special occasions.  It's currently on Rent the Runway for $30.

Whenever my family and I go to Rhode Island we always take a few hours to go to Newport and check out all the stores and have a meal. The weather is usually hit or miss when we go because we don't want to waste a perfect beach day. This trip we had a good first hour and a half and after we finished lunch we were hit with some rain.  Because it was a cooler morning I was able to wear longer pants with a swingy camisole.

We took these photos outside our lunch spot, The Red Parrot. The whole family really loves this restaurant so it's usually where we stop while we're in Newport. We also had a group of 10 this year so most of the other restaurants on our walking route were too small to accommodate.  This time I decided to try something different than my usual fish and chips or blackened fish. I got the Red Chili Chicken and Coconut Shrimp and it was DELICIOUS. Other meals the family had were the Mandarin Coconut Chicken, Lobster "Rock n' Roll" (but with butter sauce,) Coconot Shrimp, French Dip, Blackened Mahi Sandwich and Lobster Nachos. Everything was really good with healthy sized portions.

We also like to stop at Armory Antique Marketplace to check out all the crazy old collectibles and jewelry. This year I behaved and didn't buy anything new, although I was tempted by rings as usual (I bought an adorable owl ring there a couple years ago.)

And here are some photos of our food at The Red Parrot.

Last week I went on a family trip to Rhode Island for the 4th of July and to attend a family reunion. We stayed at a different house than usual because there were 10 of us plus a dog (my sister's!) and we needed a place that would accommodate that. This meant being a bit further from the beach than our normal spot. We were only a quarter mile down the road so we could bike to the beach but that's not easy when it's one of the hottest weeks of the year.  BUT we had this really fun rocky beach area down the street that I had to take photos at.

Also, you may have noticed something different about my hands. Rather than wearing all my rings I'm wearing one beautiful ring. Yep, I'm engaged! My boyfriend proposed a few weeks ago while we were camping in Vermont. I wanted to wait until we were able to tell most of our family members before sharing it publicly.

You don't see much of my fiancé on the blog apart from his talent as a photographer, but he makes occasional appearances over on my Instagram. How lucky was I to find a handsome, caring man who just happens to love taking photos and will let me take as many shots as we need for posts. I'm not one to get too mushy or personal on here - and I won't start now - but I will say that I'm extremely happy to have found Christian and to be able to spend the rest of my life with him.

And for those of you that missed it on Instagram, here's the photo I shared last week.
