Requested Dress for Less: The Madewell Dress and Belle Sigerson Morrison Flats

  Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 8:15 AM   |    Post a Comment     Tagged:,,
Here are 2 recent Dress for Less Requests I've received.  First Emily asked me to find a similar dress to the Alexa Chung for Madewell velvet dress, under $100 (basically she said she wanted a velvet dress with a vintage-looking collar).  B a la Moda asked me to find similar flats to the Belle Sigerson Morrison ones featured in this post!

The dress was quite hard...so I cheated a bit..there are hardly any velvet dresses with Peter Pan collars out there :/  Not many simple velvet dresses that aren't skin tight or nasty, either XD  So sorry this one stinks, I tried my best I also posted a not velvet one that's pretty cute.
Alexa Chung for Madewell $168.00
Velvet Dress - ASOS $67.40
Peter Pan Collar - ASOS $13.48
TOTAL: $80.88
Yes Style - $40.50

I think I was a lot more successful with this one, even though there are only 2 matches, the Steve Madden is pretty darn close :D  The ASOS ones have a similar vibe even though they aren't as similar.
Belle Sigerson Morrison $107.50
Steve Madden $84.25
ASOS $13.48

P.S. ASOS has finally launched their US SITE!!! It has free shipping all the time now!

  20. Hey! Thanks so much... and I love the grey Yes Style dress. And don't worry, I know it was a super-difficult task, because I've been scouring the web like a mad person myself. (Some vintage velvet dresses on Etsy are the closest I could find, and most look a bit like Irish dance costumes)!

  23. I need to invent an occasion (and $67) to wear that ASOS velvet dress :) I do have to warn you, I ordered from the US site but it still takes quite a bit of time. Haven't got my hat yet. I ordered the silliest thing too, that hat that looks like a bear with poms on top, haha!

  25. Man, I do love that madewell dress! I'd probably just scour a bunch of thrift stores to find a velvet dress and get it tailored to fit then make a peter pan collar if I was desperate...which I just may be ;)

  34. I know this comment is a wee bit late but just FYI I have the Alexa Chung dress and I don't think the price was that far above $100- Also, I wear it constantly so if you are thinking price per wear then it is actually quite inexpensive : )
