This outfit is full of sale finds! The tee was $20 from The Outnet's clearance sale a couple years ago and it retailed for $135...sheesh! The rainforest print Carven skirt is from the Net-a-Porter sale quite a few years ago and the Lanvin studded suede sandals are also from the Net-a-Porter sale! I've made my single purchase for this year's sale but you won't see what it is for a few months. *wink wink*

I wore this to hang out with Lydia for a bit on Saturday afternoon. We headed to lunch at Joey C's Boathouse and then came to this fun "sea wall" for our outfit photos. This is the first time in a while  that we have taken photos together. The past few times we've gotten together we haven't been in the mood to take out the tripod for double shots. Luckily this time we had my lovely photographer/fiance to do all the work.

Tee: Vince (The Outnet), Skirt: Carven (Net-a-Porter Sale), Studded Suede Sandals: Lanvin (Net-a-Porter Sale), Bag c/o Orox Leather 'Merces Saddle,' Sunglasses: Gucci

This outfit is one of my favorite combinations. It's perfect for Summer because of how airy the skirt is. The sweater is also surprisingly lightweight. And the best part? It's all made by loved ones. My late Grandmother made the top for my Mom YEARS ago and she passed it on to me. My Grandma made one for each of her daughter-in-laws and daughter. My mom actually asked for a second one, and this is that one.  Then my mom made me this skirt in 2012 with extra fabric from when we made a skirt inspired by Michael Kors. I don't even wear the other skirt anymore. Whoops.

Living in New England we have quite the range of Summer temperatures so it's not out of the ordinary to wear jeans in Summer.  It's not as hard as you think to wear high waisted jeans in summer so today I'm sharing two ways it can be done! Good American, an inclusive sizing clothing store, has a ton of different high waisted jean options. They have everything from clean to distressed all the way to waxed and embellished options.

Wear a bodysuit - The foundation of this look is a bodysuit. You can get them printed, solid, tank, short sleeve, anything your heart desires! What's great about wearing a bodysuit with high waisted jeans is you get to show off how high the jeans go rather than covering them up with a top. That's not a bad thing, but if you want to really highlight the jeans, this is the simplest way!

Thin layers are also really helpful in Summer. Here I wore my high waisted jeans with a super thin silk button up blouse that I tied at the waist so it would accentuate the jeans.  Since this particular blouse was long-sleeved I rolled them up to keep cool in the warmer weather. I was even able to get away with this top in the heat of Florida.

Crop tops and lightweight sweater tanks are another great way to show off high-waisted jeans. You can see how I've worn a crop top with high waisted jeans in this post from my vacation in Greece and in a light weight sweater here.

Normally people associate high waisted jeans with sweaters and Winter. But you really can wear them all year round if you style them right. I find that in Summer I want to wear lighter wash jeans or really thin fabric jeans. These Everlane jeans I'm wearing are on the thicker side but the light wash keeps them Summery. You also don't have to show off how high the waist actually goes. You could wear a silky dress over the jeans or a really lightweight cardigan. The sky is the limit! Just remember - keep it simple, keep it light and have fun!

How would you wear high waisted jeans in Summer?!

This is my final look from our Rhode Island vacation over the 4th of July! Since we were at the beach I brought mostly blue pieces. This blue floral dress has always been one of my favorites. I remember I saw it at American Eagle and really wanted it so I saved up and then bought it when it went on sale. It's so funny to me that American Eagle used to be my splurge store. My how times have changed!

We were in Rhode Island for the 4th of July and instead of going to a crazy crowded beach we decided to visit a lighthouse by our beach house for a short while and then headed to The Umbrella Factory in Charleston, Rhode Island.  The Umbrella Factory is a pretty unique place. It's like a mall because they have a bunch of different shops, but they also have a small eatery, sell Del's lemonade (YUM!) and have EMUS and chickens. Yes, Emus! While we were there one tried to steal my brother's lemonade because he got too close.

Originally I was going to wear this crop top with my Everlane high waisted jeans but the weather forecast for the week we were in Rhode Island was HOT so I opted for my white jeans instead. I don't wear them often because I'm a little weary of getting white dirty but I think they really make the top pop. Thank you weather for making me change my mind! I also normally wear this top with something high waisted since it's cropped and blowing wind can be quite revealing, but I like it with the lower rise as well.

Printed Crop Top: bought in Greece, White Jeans: Mother Denim 'The Rascal' Crop c/o Marshalls, Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs 'Natural Selection Mini Messenger Bag' (Saks Fifth Avenue), Sunglasses: Ray Ban 'Erika', Eyeglasses chain: Tinksky (Amazon)
